Default what oil??

doing the track day on 27/12 donnington, have not got an oil coller on the st170 engine yet, is it adviseable to put some higher temp oil in?

std oil in it is 5-30

was thinking of putting 5-40 or even higher???

any idears?? advise please

The ST170 engine has a MODINE oil cooler on the back, sanwiched between the filter and the block that uses the engine's coolant to keep the oil at a relatively constant level, I'd say that would suffice mate although you could go one better and get a 13-row mocal jobbie but it may be too much when combined with the one you have already!

Great BHP figure on the R/R by the way too mate well done!

yes very please with that mate, will leave the oil cooler til the summer track days then, dec should keep the temps down for now then

I would get an oil cooler on,You should ask Steve B what oil temps he was getting on a freezing cold winters day!

I only really needed an oil cooler in the hotter months and only right at the end of the sessions. I managed just over 40 minutes of abuse at Bedford without a cooler with no problems in Feb 2006.

I did speak to someone with a Fiesta who said they saw 120+ degree's at Bedford one Febuary

It would get the shit thrashed outta it to within an inch of its life every session and was 100% reliable for 6 track days...... imo the best RS i'vw ever had
