been offered a saff 4x4 cossie by a guy local to me,

its been off road for the last year just parked up, its a H-reg showing 75k on the clock. come with no paperwork to back it up.

only comes with log book.

now its not in the best of conditions, but it all looks easy rectifable. loads of interior bits missing, 2 bald front tyres, bit smokey.

few dent n scratches on the boddy work

Lowered about 60mm its on its arse,

now the bad bit is that it is a CAT D had light front end damage. its all been fixed it, with new bumpers lights etc etc.

got no TAX or MOT, god knows what it would need for MOT,

no battery on it, but took mine off and and stuck it on, started first time n seemed to drive ok. sometimes hesitated n spluttered abit when u put your foot down but thats about it

what would you say its worth as it is now?

and what would a CAT D be worth with 12months MOT, service n set up?

Too hard to say really, but id want it standing me at no more than Ł2500 when its all up and running and sorted in good mechanical condition with good bodywork. Id say it would then be worth around half that of one thats not on the hit list.

 

You dont know how much it is yet!

 

My old Cossie was a cat-D - but then again, it was in top condition aswell

Take it and save it from being scrapped.

 

I paid Ł2k for my 2 wheel drive nearly a year ago with no MOT, tax or dashboard fitted. All of the parts were there though and it has shed loads of history and had 86k on it. Mine isn't on the register though.

you'll never make much on a CAT D as no one wants one really.

A m8 of mine reasontly bought a k plate 2wd replica with full cossie running gear & interior off ebay he payed Ł3000 , then 2 weeks later after being told that the engine was on the way out he re listed it an got Ł3100 back.. thought it may have some relivance?

 

I'd have it - as far as fixing a Cossie's concerned, no cost is too great!

a lot of peeps deliverately buy conversions anyway, dont declare it and get cheap insurance

 

If it had a full test on it and least that would prove something, that it's capable of passing one before you start spending money on it. The way it is you could end up spending as much as buying a good one, and then still not have as good a car. It really depends on the car when you buy something like this, it's never going to be worth as much as an HPI clear one, but depending on what's happened to them there are some good bargains to be had. Just looking at these pics that one does look a bit on the roughish side to me, but at the end of the day you pays your money and you takes your choice.

 

All I can see is wrong with it is:

• a slightly wonky front bumper
• absent headlamp washwipe and rub strips (which I think is gayer than having a dump valve )
• white wheels and seemingly flat tyres

Or did I miss something other than the Cat D, which doesn't matter if you're gonna keep it?

 

Like you I don't see an issue with Cat D if you're going to keep it, Cat D is only light damage or stolen recovered, something like that. Pictures always make cars look better than they are but this just has the look of a tired one to me. I could be mistaken though, a good T-CUT and it might look a million dollars. The problem with them is it's so easy to buy one and have to sink a fortune into it to get it to a decent state. They're not something you can run on a shoestring.

 

A bit rough around the edges but solid Ł2k Cat D sounds like an ideal Saph to me!

Basically lots of cheap enjoyable thrashings ahead, and you're never going to loose that much if it comes to worst case scenario

aint got a problem with any cat c or d,s
but a had a 4x4 saff cosworth last year on the registar and could,nt give it away(ended up with Ł1500 and a 5 door escort gti in px)
wouldnt buy another cosworth write off to hard to sell
it only seem to be traders on here that can shift them no probs (plus nobody understands bout 90% of motors on the road have had a bump at one time)

 

imo cat car does not make any difference if been repared correctly in facty if as above u r getting a better car the alot of the hpi clear ones!which of these i would say 50% have hidden history

 

As said, running and t&T'd it is only worth half of what an unrecorded car with history would be.

well if it a craper yeh but if it a good one can not see any reason why it would not get close to wot a hpi clear would get!(after it has been inspected by a approved site!)
