Default Deleting of Posts......

.....by Moderators - do they need to let the user know why they deleted it or can they just do it as & when they feel like it with no reason?? Also is a copy of the thread saved for future reference??

Reason I ask is because the infamous 'NUTTER thread' from the Spit ya Dummies room has been deleted (mods get your IP address checker at the ready!!!).....is this to remove evidence of Moderators insulting people whenever they feel like it???

Just wondered thats all!!!

Yo lee

Just to clarify as a few people have asked me on msn about post shifting etc.

Threads are not deleted permanantly, they are moved to "the sin bin" where they remain untill such a time as the database times them out and deletes them automatically.

If on a thread, there are certain posts that need deleting but doesn't warrant the thread being removed (IE - a serious information topic etc) then the offending posts are deleted instead of the whole thread being binned, unfortunately, there is no way of recovering these posts, but it means that a good thread can stay

If a thread is started and its an arguement (like many of the SECS threads [used as an example only here] ) but is beneficial in one way or another, then that thread is moved to the "dummy room" which only Gold Members can view, which is sensible as it keeps GD free of crap (usually ). The reason only Gold members can view them in the dummy room is they contributed to the site and therefore are allowed a say in what goes in and what doesn't, hence another room - the Contributors Discussion room, where problems with the site, how its run and general issues can be discussed without the bandwagon jumping from people who have signed up only to slag off the site and the team who run it.

Hope that clears it up for you - catch me on msn if not

Gracie... I think Lee is asking for an answer more on the lines as to why a thread that's been in the dummy room been removed this morning after it's been there all week?

no we do not have to let you know if a post or topic is removed.

however some are moved to the bin to preserve any evidence they may contain and /or to stop the provocaion of any posters on that thread.
