My brothers st 170 has started whining from the silver box at the back of the engine bay (middle).it has a miltiplug and a cable on the right hand side.What is this units job?

 

I think its the runner control moduke - but noises are not good and may be expensive to replace - had mine done under warranty.

yes its whats called the IMRC (Inlet Manifold Runner Control) Module, i belive its around £100 for the module.

It is a common faultt with the st170, you dont need to programme this module in so no IDS is needed, so you wont have to take it to main dealer save your cash for christmas
