Hello
I have a major oil leak on my s2 rst,
i have marked it on the pic below,
it seems to be coming from where the sump joins the block
what could this be. the car is booked in with my mechanic next week.
just thought id get some ideas of here.

There's a techneque to do CVH cump gaskets and get them to seal 1st time.
i've done a write up on it before on Here, i'll try and search for it.
Your looking at 2-4 hours, depending on who's doing it.
oil Ł5-40 and gasket Ł8+.

Thats a fair price.
But a CVH sump is not rocket science to get right,
i would say its more the gasket where the oil pump joins the block to me, theres no reason why the sump gasket would develop a leak in that point only
Especially with "major oil leak" being said!!!

Could be mate,
i think its major as the oil went down to minimum in just one day.
if the cars running it just continuosly drips, when i turn it off
it seems to stop, slow down.
Its booked in next week with my mechanic, so fingers crossed

thats blatantly the gasket between the oil pump and the block IMO.
Still sump off, but also cam belt off, bottom pulley etc, probably be worth putting a new oil pump while your there it'd be a wasted effort to take the oil pump off and fit a new gasket up with an old and probably high mileage pump.
