Default My ongoing Escort Cosworth project

Heres some pics of my Escort when bought 15/07/06

spec was luxury pack except leather, full ford history & mot's, plus mongoose de-cat exhaust, T28 Turbo Technics turbo with 360 degree bearing, K&N filter and breather, carbon fibre front splitter complete, samco boost hoses, & JVC 200w speakers in parcel shelf

pics from first week when I got it home 22/07/06 - only prob so far was that the car needed a new battery but I knew this when I bought the car

early october finally managed to get my cherished registration number on:

Modifications so far:

polished filter shield (and underbonnet vent plates - no pic though)

blue vacuum hoses fitted:

breather moved from by exhaust:

air flow sensor cleaned and painted

whole engine bay given a good clean:

mileage today - 64007

4th November 06

other stuff to be done before spring next year:
remaining samco's (on order should be here next week)
new head unit
fit amp n stereo stuff :0822:
take out interior and sound deaden complete shell from boot to bulk head (i done this on all my cars and makes a massive difference to stereo quality)
new surround for sunroof switch cos its broken (on order)
new clutch cable (received just needs fitting)
polybush front lower suspension (already got bushes)

forge actuator (ta nice auralis) just need to get a new spring for it

wheels to be re-furbed
got these calipers as spares from nice auralis

12th November 06:

new brake fluid cap cover glued on:

new actuator fitted:

re-positioned air filter and air flow sensor:

new samco's to be fitted:

also fitted new sunroof switch surround today.

should be fitting the powerflex bushes, samco's, new antifreeze, injector clean, and air con clean.

will be fitting stereo and sound deadening in the new year.

25th November 2006

todays progress.

first problem encountered was that the car wouldn't go on our two poster ramp as the arms off the ramp wouldn't go under the side skirts. ended up lying some inch and quarter planks of wood then driving onto them to raise the car so that the arms went under the skirts.

once on the ramp, coolant system flushed out and old remaining black coolant hoses removed (pic shows heater matrix hose location):

Now, i hadn't worked much on this car before but can now confirm that the air con stuff makes it tricky to work on.
most hoses came off pretty easy but the one that goes from the bottom heater to the oil cooler was a fookin arse, had to take off throttle body to get to it, the dipstick tube off plus other odd brackets etc

the other hose that was a pain is one that goes into the water pump - the hose clip was facing one of the pully's (and theres a few - many more than on my last saph) plus absolutely no room to get your hand or a screwdriver or ratchet any where hear it - ended up undoing it millimeter by millimeter with a 6mm spanner - this would have been pretty imposible had the car not been on a ramp.

old and new hoses:

hadn't had the under engine cowling off before - looks quite clean n tidy

heres the rear end underneath - a bit grubby but little surface rust - really good base for what I have planned.

car on ramp

noticed that the passenger outer cv gaiter is looking a bit iffy so that'll be changed next weekend when I have the lower arms off to fit new powerflex bushes.

tomorrow got to:
refit all new samco's and stuff taken off today
paint throttle bracket and throttle body before refitting (if i have time)
change clutch cable
treat air conditioning with treatment solution
fit two remaining blue vacuum hoses
remove and refit properly the front splitter (as some dick in the past has made a right hash of it)

26th November 2006

pics from yesterday:

lower hoses from underneath before engine cover re-fitted

engine bay now from above:

outside images:

27th December 2006

today fitted some stainless bits:

polished lifting eyes

polished washer motor cover and bracket cover

also had a fuse box cover but not got a pic of that

lower arms and anti roll bar off for new polybushes to be fitted

once the lower arms were off we realised that the ball joints were a bit worn so ordered 2 new arms
one that was sent was the wrong part tho :0523:
heres the 2 old ones and one new one

as the replacement wont be here until tomo lunch, this is how i've left it tonight:

also changed a cv gaitor that was about to split.

3rd February 2007

new head unit:

i've got a plastic cover on order to go where the cd player used to go, and i dunno why the ashtray looks blue - it looks fine in the flesh

polished throttle cable bracket:

the bolt with the arrow pointing towards it came out today so the turbo was blowing lol

sorted now tho - just an arse having to take all the heat shield off n stuff, plus the car was hot so had to leave it cool down

and its now tucked away for the night:

23rd April 2007

2nd hand genuine ford splitter now fitted - repaired the hockey sticks and painted them, but the spoiler and splitter just needed a quick clean.

thanks to rsport for the second hand bits

30th May 2007

well decided that this October the car will have a bare metal respray (except the roof as that doesn't need doing). so the car will spend a few months over the winter in my dads experienced hands to come out in the spring looking mint.

i'll fit a new carbon splitter, wheels we be re-furbished at the same time, and some bits n bobs under the bonnet will be painted up too. everything else staying just as it is.

not going to the extremes that i did with my last cossie underneath as i simply don't have time to keep it looking the way it should (even though i really want to lol) plus it takes to much time to do in the first place.

5th June 2007

new clutch cable was finally fitted the weekend along with a swift oil n filter change

need a new gear knob now - shattered the insert with my steering lock

6th July 2007

hmmmm, stupidly reversed into a concrete bollard today and busted the back bumper, so that'll need to be fixed

in 11 years driving first time i've reversed into sommat.

4th August 2007

mileage today 66007

MOT time - passed with no probs :0822: although splitter caused a few headaches at first

been discussing plans for the winter today - it'll appear looking the bollox next year.

22nd August 2007

air flow sensor cover now fitted:

more bling to follow shortly

26th August 2007

latest photo's taken last sunday

thanks for the comments,

small update - been busy at work so not got much done:

new bumper inserts fitted

new stainless bits:

repositioned filter/airflow meter (again)

pics of engine bay at moment:

still got new gearlever gaitor to fit, plus found a brand new set of centre gauges at a good price so need to change them (the original ones had got some slight dark patches when illuminated - common prob so i hear). Planning to get the rocker cover done, along with plenum cover over the next few weeks, heres a quick photoshop of what i'm going to do:
