Default Anyone else get annoyed with the Elises at Ford Fair

The first time I went out on track I had one drifting round the side of me which really freaked me out, a bit later on I had two come up on me one went up the outside and the other shot up the inside. Now this was the first time I'd ever been out on track and its hard enough but when you've got to constantly watch for these elises coming at you at some ridiculous speed they're darting round you before you get a change to indicate and move out of their way. I think I was close to hitting one that decided to overtake on the right as I was bout to move over to let another through on the left.

They may be experienced drivers but they didn't have a clue what I was going to do.

i do agree with you i was watching and some were well close. Especially when the track cars were following the marshall car thing and the lotuses were doing well above 100 round some of the longer corners. Did have fun going out in one tho

I didnt go on track myself but we sat watching from the grass around the pit exit.

We were listening to the guy on the pa saying about the rides in the elises and how the drivers were trained racing drivers and knew what they were doing, just as one of them came past off the track on the grass! lol

The last time I had track time at Ford Fair I had a rant, and again this year shall I rant…. why not, I completely agree the Exiges were cutting it fine etc, at least they passed and were gone, the Proxes on the Escort were only recently replaced so didn’t have too much grip at first, plus took me a couple of laps to find my feet, it was the other runners who seemed to have been obeying completely different rules – most people went at it like they were Michael Schumacher, the Escort is slower on the straights (its only 1600 carb'd), but a couple of instances I couldn’t move over to the right as I was being overtaken – on the RIGHT! What happened to the ‘no overtaking into or out of bends’? I try to move onto line for the corners, but I can’t as people coming past me on the approach. Maybe it was the fact that it was a novice session (as I still consider myself a beginner) people thought was an opportunity to gun it down the straights and then held me up on the bends where they crawled around them, I spent too much time keeping out of peoples way and worrying about not cutting them up when trying to get on line
Perhaps the Intermediate and Expert sessions displayed more the sort of etiquette that occurs at proper organised track days?

Saying that once I got the lay of the land I starting to enjoy it more and felt was improving around the bends and then it was time to come in! although perhaps that was a good thing as think those few laps finished my brake pads off, had a touch of brake fade into one bend

I certainly wouldn’t recommend these sessions for a complete beginner as their first taster of track driving (was mine a couple of years back and would’ve put me off for life!)

I had a couple of sessions on the track and I felt as though one came really close to taking my front end out. I knew they were going to be a hell of alot faster than me (in a lowly mk6 escort 2.0 GTI) as most people out there were, and when I saw them coming I tried to get out of their way as quick as possible, but as someone has already said, they dont know where im going to go.

As for the only overtaking on the left..........

There weren't any Elises on track at Ford????

Saw loads of Mk2 Exiges though

didn't bother me particuarly, I quite enjoying pushing the racing drivers out of the way in my cars. Must have pissed them right off... giving hot haps and having to pull over to let another car past I drove around the outside of one through of the fast corners over the back in the Skyline thought I was going to get in trouble for that one

but I would have been FUCKING RAGING if I was a novice out in a beginners session!!!!!

Outrageous driving and behaviour I thought! no consideration for inexperience drivers....

I know I do it as well though but they are supposed to be setting the example surely!

He was good, nearly had the tyres off the rims at bridge!

They shouldn't be out with novices though, espeacially if they are fooking about like that. Two of them were drifting around the outside of a group that had just got on the track at Luffield and were still behind the pace car!

Asking for trouble IMO.

I'll make it my mission to overtake as many as I can next year!

Dave were you and a mate both in saffs with blue tape on the lights?

Some good arse out action at Abbey in the afternoon!!

Why? No-one else did (get told off for outside overtaking, not overtaking the instructors, didn't see much of that )

I didn't think the Exiges would be despatched on Novice sessions.

Track time is tight, but can they introduce strict beginner sessions? Maybe with tighter rules, perhaps more of a 'convoy' style where an expert leads showing a good line around the track, with designated overtaking areas where faster slightly confident cars can over take with the understanding from other runners that you will give them space to come back into line, which could be difficult/timely to put into practice, just a thought..
