Reshelling a Cos
Dont know if anyone will be able to shed any light on this, but here goes.
Is it legal to reshell a car using a second hand shell and then use the origional I.D.
I only ask cos i went to look at one today which has been done.
Nice car, not sure about the legality side of things.
Cheers.

If he did not use a cossie shell it could not say cossie on the logbook so devalued, what he has done is highly illegal, and if you put the index number on here I would gladly report him.

Defo a stolen shell. You may only re-shell a car using the old ID if it's a brand new shell, which will have a number and a history that the DVLA can trace. Then it's a points system based on how much stuff you use from the original car.
Using an old ID on a 2nd hand shell is ringing. People do this when they get a stolen shell they can't put back on the road.

Thats why................. Genuine shell, no reason to NOT obey the law and use the ID from the shell.....
Means it's stolen...

what a load of crap brand new escort cosworth shells dont come with id i should no as i bought 2 from fords and both had no id at all floors were unstamped the only id it had was 909 ford morostport dvla could put id on the car but you would have to show lots of recipt of the body shell from new and most of the bits i think they work on a point system all in all its would be less hassel to just use id from the doner car

abdr500 your talking about NEW shells, what the question was asked was about a second hand shell which at one point WOULD have been given an Id. now i'm not jumping on the same boat as the others and saying it may be stolen, but does seem strange to have swapped id's. maybe the second hand shell had been an insurance right off but still usable. there could be many reasons, not everything is stolen!
