has anyone had a whirring noise from the top end on a cosworth like from in the rocker cover area when the car under load.. cant hear it when driving only noticed backing up a hill so when the engine struggles but the noise speeds up with the engine revs....? sounds fine ticking over and when you rev the engine on the spot.. any ideas.. thanks

 

cam belt tension/tensioner?

as it gets hot it will get tighter

 

alternator?

ours whines like fook think bearings have gone

i did think maybe the tensioner as now ive let the car sit for a while and re started it it seems to have shut up now.. it hasent moved again for ages so think ill bung another belt on with a tensioner encase.... the alternator hines sometimes on this too but is a different noise..

think i may have sorted it ill give it a try in the morning.. id best not say what i think it was tho.. shame to do the belt as this one only done 2k.. same for the tensioner but the car sits for months on end so ill change anyway.. keep me busy while im off work sick...
