i recently fitted some alloys to my car, 195 wide. the rears are fine but the front slightly exceed the wheel arch my 10mm at most.

is this a mot fail??????

or will i get away with it, im unsure of the proper rules.

If the wheels/tyres protrude further than the arch then they are an MOT fail and not legal. If you had an arsey copper they could have you under "Construction and Use" and even issue a prohibition notice meaning you'll not be able to drive any further and you'll be stuck with recovery costs and potentially a long walk home.

Most plod will prob just advise you to sort it and give you a VDRS notice to change the wheels if they spot it.

Sounds like somebody sold you Pegeout offset wheels

 

yes as oranoco said, they will fail an mot. Get some cardboard out and make some temporary wide arches

 

or get some steelies with good tyres, once you get it home after passing, put your wide rims back on

 

don't be a killjoy, cardboard arches are FAR more entertaining

Its only an MOT failure and illegal if the tread protrudes further than the arch IIRC. I just had my Prelude MOT'ed yesterday and it passed without a mention even though the wheels stick out a bit, the tread is right in line with the arches so not an MOT failure and Illegal.

 

it has the same tread lay out as the toyo proxes if you know what i mean.

it dont stick otu much but i dont want a fail. i dnt understand why it fails if its out a bit and yea i did get them from a pug so good guess lol.

as an exposed wheel is dangerous if you were to hit a pedestrian with the side of your car

 

as said above it will fail if the MOT inspector spots it that is

 

thats really really gay, i dont know if i should change it as its okay on back and its only sticking uot a little bit. i think im just going to go for it lol.

 

doubt he will spot it mate hell be looking for the corroded brake pipes and rust on a ford

tyres pertruding from a wheel arch is not a failure.

in fact you can run open wheeled for an MOT of you want (hot rod style)

constructions and use is a very different matter and thet is between you and the police though
