Default Wastegate `flutter`??

Might sound like a dumb question, but how to i get the `flutter` noise when changing gear instead of the usual dump valve going off?

Its on a T5

Cheers, Ed.

My GT30 doesn't seem to mind. I have been running close to 2-bar of boost for ages now with no dump valve.

PMSL Euan, here we go again!!

There needs to be a sticky thread highlighting why it isn't the Wastegate that is making the noise!!!

OK, so it's the Compressor blades squirming in the backdraft that makes the noise, but I think it sounds worse than it is.

I have thought of a way....

Stick a pigeon in your air box and go for a run...

when it hits full boost it should be sucked in and.........................flutter

I bought my turbo car for its power and the fact i didn`t even pay a grand for it, not because it goes `Whoosh`.

why are you asking us how to make it woosh then?

Fit a super dooper wooshy valve and it will do it

joking aside mate you need to remove the airbox as this acts as a silencer.

Why not do as I do and have ALL THREE.
I can have whoosh, no noise or chatter, at the flick of two switches.
I have put on two dump valves one recirc, one atmo for loud/quiet but if both turned off you get chatter, less than Ł10 as well.

V6 EDC - My remark wasn't directly specifically at you.

Avid-fan - Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. The air-filter is irrelevant, a car will 'chatter' with or without an air filter.

sorry will try to explain better.as my car has a recirc dump valve it has no loud whoosh noise

but very loud chatter.

i know its air backdraft through the turbo..but where is the sound actually emitting from

when it comes out of the car ??

If you have 'chatter', then your dump valve isn't really doing its job properly. The trouble is, to get the valve to be effective at higher boost, it may be too strong and won't blow at lower boost levels, meaning that you will still get some 'chatter'. However, if it is set up soft, so that you get no 'chatter' it may leak in high rpm low load situations.

This is why we generally don't use them.

Also, the sound is emitted from the intake of the turbo.

thats not the best idea you have come up with! as the dump valves WILL leak if they have there signal hose turned off as the pressure differential accross the diaphragm will be high

Is that really relevant?

You have a dump valve "on demand", which means you ONLY have it for "impressing" pedestrians.
