Default been paid £300 by mistake

i used to work for an job agenciy about 2 & half years ago, & 3 weeks ago £300 quid went into my bank, so i just thaught to myself 'that'll be handy' & never realy thaught nothing of it, then i got a payslip from this agency, & today they phoned saying it was a mistake & i should pay it back so i just hung up on them

but i also read in the newspaper about a lad that got so many thousands (£100,000 i think) in his bank by a mistake of the bank & he spent it & he went to court & the bank lost

so what do you reckon i do?

mind you this agency is a massive company

i think you are obliged to pay it back... but i dont think it should be like that... if they pay it to you, its their mistake, not yours...

This isn't the bank that's made the mistake though. So you will have to pay it back.

READ THIS

It took the bank two weeks to realise its mistake but Lee is now facing a possible prison sentence. In court on Monday she admitted taking money she knew was not hers. Yesterday the jobless and single mother-of-one recounted her sudden rise to wealth.
ALSO THIS

Moira Haynes from Citizens Advice writes: Once you realise that an error has been made it's your responsibility to pay the money back. If you now go ahead and spend it, knowing it is not your money, the bank could try to prosecute you for theft as well as recovering the money from you.

'If you do nothing, the bank can still recover the money from you because you knew about the mistake and the money is still in your possession.'

A very similar thing happened to my mate. He got 5 grand paid into his account by mistake. He promtly spent it all on shite.........

2 months later they phoned him, and asked for it back. He said, can't, spent it on crap.

They tried taking him to court but as it was 2 months before they noticed the court said, your mistake. Sorry..

My mate was pretty releived let me tell you

in all fairness though... not many people keet too much of an eye on their bank account... ihave a rough idea of what i can spend and how much is in there...

if it does have ot be this way... there should be time period of about 2 days or something... if some extra money comes into your account then you are gonna spend it on something you have either needed & are saving or wanted...

I heard about that woman on the radio. Its not so much that she spent it that gets me. (Well it does) but not as much as the fact she spent it all on stupid things. Who really thinks a £10K holiday is a sensible idea? Who really thinks. "I really need a 50" plasma" Even if the Bank had never noticed their mistake in a years time she wouldnt of done anything sensible and still be back where she is now. If I won £135K on the Lotto its going towards a flat. Not being spunked on crap that I dont really need.

To sterotype, shes a typical Pikey mum (of which there are thousands nowadays ) who has the mindset of it being someone elses fault for every bad thing in her life. 1 quote tells you everything
They should have realised then that it was their money.

Throw her in Jail and maybe her kid(s) will get a proper upbringing in a foster home.

I just did.

Over the following fortnight, Lee helped herself to £33,000, spending much of it at sex shop chains, Simply Pleasure and Ann Summers.
