Default Outlook Express question

Got a new comp on its way.
Ideally I would like to keep some of my emails now I've sorted through the junk and the keepers.
If I copy outlook to a disc will it simply copy the program or will it save my emails and addresses etc ??

You might have to be a bit more specific on a link Lynne as I cannot see there anything about copying emails, etc to a new comp.

copy

"C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\big long string of numbers\Microsoft\Outlook Express" (folder)

and burn to CD or copy to usb drive etc.. there will be dbx files in there inbox.dbx sent items.dbx etc

open outlook express on new pc, close the wizard, close outlook express again. paste folder from CD into "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\big long string of numbers\Microsoft\" on new PC (note: the big long string will be a different)

For contacts, go to start> programs> accessories> address book

export to a .wab file, then re-import it on the new PC

I thought you'd know to click on 'Importing Items into Outlook Express'

BigMouthBillyBass Thanks. Will give it a go.

Redkop I looked on that but still doesn't tell you how to get items from one computer to another. Tells you how to import from other accounts or programs, but not how to move them from one comp to a 2nd comp without them being physically connected.

or is it this bit?

E-mail account settings. From an existing e-mail account. When you import your e-mail account settings, your Outlook Express account will have many, if not all, of the customization and information details from your previous account.
I thought outlook was a program that only held the info on that particular computer you accessed it from: meaning if I opened outlook on my new comp after setting up my account details it would start fresh with emails and addresses and not have access to the emails I have already received

Not having much luck here

Got my new comp hooked up last night.
Vista has updated outlook to 'windows mail'. It doesn't have the same folders as outlook to replace it with the dbx files via Cocs, etc.
I accessed the mail folder and has .dll files but no dbx files to exchange.
I checked the help files and it said you can export/import from other programs but the messages are not on my comp to import.

I opened my usb file and that is now showing only .dll files and not any dbx files I definately copied them across though.

Any ideas?
I haven't accessed my emails for almost a week now as I didn't want any to go missing should I open them via ntl site and they get removed from the server before I could get outlook/ win-mail to open them first, keeping a copy.

Unable to export the address book also. Used win-mail to import address book, wab file, but when I open the outlook folder on the usb drive it says there isn't any in that folder

No addy book in 'accessories'. Done a search and the only "address" it found was the short-cut in start-programs.

Pretty close to binning win-mail altogether..but seems such a simple task to do then it will be fine but can't get it to operate how it should
