No brake pedal after changing pads and disc!
Hi All my first post.
I've just put the ST170 discs and new pads on my XR4x4. All that I did was push the piston back to take the new pads, didn't disconnect the calipers, and reassembled it with the adapter bracket for the caliper. Everything should be great and I should be stopping on a sixpence, alas but no.
Now I have a very soft brake pedal that goes all the way to the floor. Although I didn't disconnect anything thought I'd try bleeding them them. Bleed them with the ignition off and got a pedal, great I thought, until I turned the ignition on and lost the pedal! When I turn the ignition on the ABS light does go off, but I a press the pedal hard it comes on. I'm stumped can't work out how I've broken my brakes! Please help!

If you pushed the pistons back to quickly you may have damaged the seals in the master cylinder. Check this if all else fails. If not maybe the brake fluid poured out of the reservoir and when you pushed the pistons in and when the pistons were pumped back out the fluid level may have been to low and sucked air in.
Thanks for your replies. I've put the old discs on and it seems better, I do get a pedal now, but when the brake pedal is pressed hard the abs and brake warning light come on but do go out after a few seconds. Could the lights coming on be due to a faulty master cylinder?
Looking at the fitting of the ST170 discs and the bracket that I got with them, the fitment is not very good, actually its pretty rubbish, when done up tight the disc is up against the caliper bracket, I will have to try again when I have more time. I probably got the bracket the wrong way around or something stupid!
