Default oil usage 1.25 lx 16v

right when i got my 1.25mk 4 fiesta a few month ago the oil was just above the maximum line on the dipstick.

now i checked this morning after doing a total of 1800 miles since owning it and its around 1/4-min mark.

any idea where the oil is going there is no smoke i've noticed ot the exhaust, i cant see any leaks and there is no oil under my car.

so im stumped, took it for a drive round to the petrol station now letting it stand for 30 min and im gonna check it again to see if it has alterd.

also i was going to buy a bottle of oil 5-30 i assume?

but how do i know what oil is in there to start with, and i assume i couldnt just add some 5-30 if thats not what i sin it to start with...

I used to have one of these, they are quite oil thirsty but it depends on how you drive. If your not sure about putting the different oil in the engine drain it via the oil sump under the car. But any oil for the car should be ok to go in it.

put some thicker oil in it like 10 40.
i serviced a friends fiesta & used the recommended 5 30 after a couple of weeks he mentioned that the oil was low on it.numpty didn't top it up though & drove to scotland in it. conrod then exited through the block
apparantly its down to a problem with the liners some suffered from flaking which caused high oil consumption
