Default Rolling Road 207Bhp???

Hi,
Had a rolling road power run and my car is seriously under performing. I was expecting some thing around the 300bhp mark but 207Bhp was a real disappointment . That’s what the Standard Car Pushes out...
The Engine has a Grp A Head, L6 ECU with 803 Ahmed Bayoo Chip, 4x803 injectors,T3 turbo, Bailey breather, New HT Leads, New plugs, Grp A coil, New 3bar Map Sensor, New Air charge, New Water Temp, New Phase Sensor, Dizzy Cap & rotor Arm. etc.. Checked the timing 16 degree before TDC at idle ive fitted a turbosmart dual boost controller with the low setting at 1bar and the high setting at 1.6bar. The problem seems to be the boost is kicking in very late at 6000rpm. How would I go about getting the boost to come in at a lower rpm? The only thing I haven't had checked are the CO and the Air/Fuel Ratio...

Knackered boost controller?? Try disconnecting it & running a proper actuator.

I could be wrong though.

with that spec you should be alot higher... did you not find out what the afr was on the dyno??
also if you have such a worked head then a t3 is totally wrong for the car .. t34 with a .63 exhaust housing should get some nice power then ..easily 350+ i recon...

He might mean a GrpA headgasket

Was that a flywheel figure or wheels figure for the power ?

Steve.

No I didn't find out what the AFR was as the lambda sensor they were using would fit up the tail pipe. As I have a techcraft silencer which has a 90 degree bend on the tail pipe, as the block is in a kitcar (Quantum Xtreme). But I will be fitting a weld on boss to house the lambda sensor for the next RR. Would a T34 be a bit laggy? Or would a hybrid T3 be more suitable. The car is pretty rapid as it only weighs 720Kg.

a t34 with a .48 housing would surely be better . my boost comes in at 1400rpm using a stage 2 t34 with .48

hi yes i meant Group A head gasket
207 Bhp at the fly wheel

1.6bar is probably on the limit of a standard T3. So a hybrid would be needed to obtain 330Bhp.

If the boost is only kicking in at 1.6bar then thats the problem as a T3 runs out of puff around 5.5k.

I would go for a T34 .48 as mentioned. Then i would get someone who knows what they are doing to set the boost controller up.

Seriously I would find another rolling road.
There is no way a cossie lump is going to be 207 at 1.6 bar.
The RR sounds crap, you do not EVER do a ROLLING ROAD TUNE with out AFR, never ever, this is THE most critical aspect that has to be watched.
It's a bit like going to the dentist and he has no tools so is going to use a hammer and chisel, would that be ok sir!!
If the turbo was producing 1.6 bar then it is healthy turbo wise.
You CANNOT tune or even check and engine SAFELY without AFR.
This is the FIRST thing that needs to change, before anything else.
As for any turbo upgrade see what happens with the original one first, 1.6 bar with DECENT AFR will give power aplenty for a kit car.
You could upgrade if so wished but, I would go T3 modified with T34 compressor wheel and standard T3 housing, keep the .48 turbine housing, if you make it laggy it will just be more inclined to spin when hitting boost due to light weight.

We're (I'm) assuming it's a cosworth...........so there's definately a problem, it should put out around the 200bhp at the flywheel when it's totally standard

T3 and greens + 21psi should certainly = a good 260 - 270bhp at the flywheel.

1.6 is definately not the limit on a t3, my old sapphire used to run at 1.7 most of the time, with the occasional 1.85 spike in the winter! went well!

has nobody thought of the simple things? how about a Knackered exhaust housing?! it would explain the boost coming in so late!
