i have to say i havent called them and asked why etc but ffs its fooking shite, i have the sky tv box plugged into a micro filter, the phone into the same filter as the sky tv box has two sockets at end, so its plugged in right.

I had a similar problem at first.
Go into the router (click here to access your router: http://192.168.0.1/ ) the username is admin password is sky
On the bottom of the first page click on 'Show statistics' and a p[opup window will appear with lots of info. The last line is the one to look at, where is says 'Noise margin' under the downstream colum this should be at least 7.0dB. If it is any lower then pages will crash and not load etc.
The problem with Sky bb is that if you reboot the router at a quiet internet time for your local area it will connect very fast as there is less noise on the phone lines. Then, when it gets busier you are still connected fast but there is more noise and so it cant get a reliable signal to the servers. If you reboot your router at a busy time then it will connect slightly slower (only a very small amount) but it will be reliable all the time!
So if the noise margin I mentioned above is less than 7, then reboot the router and it will automatically setup the speed to give you a better signal to noise ratio.
I also found mine was unreliable for the first week of having it. A friend had similar problems with another ISP and was told they all do 'line training' for the first week and so it will be unreliable and the conection will go up and down.
Mine has been perfect since, I only have to reboot the router once in a blue moon now (if we have a power cut and it connects too fast again for example)
