Default What would win?

Just been talking to a friend with a mitsubishi gto, currently undergoing an engine rebuild, he's reckoning on 500ish bhp, i get the impression he thinks he's going to kick my ass, i have a 2wd saff, long studded 200 block, 7.3:1 comp, lightened/balanced bottom end, wrc h/gasket, tt t38, greys, rs500 intercooler/turbo cooler, peaks at 30psi, somewhere over the 400bhp mark? surely my car will beat his barge, even if its in a staight line?

What do you reckon?

pulled up at lights and the m3 is behind me the guy gets out

i rolled down the window thinking here we go

he says u should get your car checked as it was popping flames all the way said thanks mate and blasted off

GTO's are very heavy, I don't think you will have any problems, particularly at higher speeds.

the saff wont have an issue with it mate, the gto is a sloppy barge that wants to be a super car but is far to over weight and underpowered even at 500bhp.

Don't forget too that jap cars have smaller horses.
It is amazing just how slow the japs can make a car with the power sometimes.

I remember thinking that the GTO's might do something special at TOTB the first year it was run. They were shit at sprinting and handling, but maybe they would do well at Top Speed??

Yeah, right, not one went faster than my RST, which at the time had only just broken the 150mph barrier.

IF (and its a BIG IF) he makes a genuine 500bhp, he will absolutely walk away from your saph, especially at higher speeds.

Up the quarter you might have him if the rear beam setup on yours is half decent, but on a motorway you wont even be near him.

Reality is though, I bet his will not be 500bhp!

What he said .

The GTOs are a pile of wank . They'd need 1,000bhp to feel fast . VERY, VERY heavy, and you couldn't GIVE me one (well you could, but I'd sell it straight away ).

There were alleged 500bhp ones at previous TOTBs doing 13-14s quarters .

That's the manufacturer's quoted weight, which is usually dry (no water / oil / fuel). There was mildly modified one recently put on the scales at a "big power" evening at Snetterton and it was 1800 and something .

Power to weight the 400 Saff is 300bhp/ton the 500 GTO 285 so unless the GTO has dramatically better aerodymatics I cant see it beating the Saff even at the Topend. It wont be the walkover most are suggesting though. A 500 Saff would walk on its grave im sure.

A rwd Cossie will have around a 30bhp transmission advantage cos the Scoob is 4X4 in a straight line throw in those Dodgy things called bends & a Scoob will pull it back.
Please dont confuse what you think you are beating on the road with actual timing during a competition when both drivers are trying equally. Thats when the truth hurts im afraid.

Having looked into recently transmission losses it is amazing just how much a 4x4 set up can consume some over 100BHP, and 2wd were around 45/50 on average.

i beat a gto with my aerodynamically challenged housebrick of an estate. mr smug old medallion man was looking in his rear view mirror as i came up behind him and i seen him grin as he put his foot down. he eventually pulled onto the inside lane to let me cruise past noticing that his grin had changed to surprised frown.obviously just a standard 276bhp twin turbo but a hell of a big car with lots of weight slowing it down

assuming that scooby was standard ,there wasnt that much in it so even my old estate would kick the maestro's arse. anything tuned to a higher level will obviously beat a more standard car. compare like for like then see what happens
