Default Just got a fine from DVLA WTF!!!!!

Right i sold my Impreza in january, sent off the V5 ect. Just got a letter through today with a £40 fine because i havent taxed it??????? it ran out in June. I dont have the new owners details anymore (it was 6 months ago) what the hell can i do? I dont want to pay a £40 fine cos sum twat hasent taxed his car. The letter states i still have to pay the fine weather i still own it or not. Surely this cant be right. Who the fuck would have a car for 6 months and not bother chasing up the V5 if the never recived it. especially for an Impreza.

Its your duty to ensure the new keeper fills in the V5 and YOU post it - did you do that ?

You should have got a letter back from DVLA confirming they received the transfer of ownership paperwork. If you have that letter (as it recommends you keep it safe) then send them a copy back.

If you dont have it..... ummmm..... think you might have to pay mate, sorry.

yes it was filled in and posted. DVLA have obviously not recived it or they have but lost it. It just gets me that someone would pay 3k for a car and not be bothered about the logbook.

mate, I know of a few lads that are rolling in cash from selling the white stuff, they buy scoobies all the time3,4,5k and have no licence, no insurance etc etc, they just drive them then sell them on, of they get a tug the boot it and dump the car.

I would phone the dvla, explain that you have sold the car and that you sent them the log book, you may have to pay up the 40 notes, but atleast you will not get anyomore and it may be a lesson to make sure log books are sent recorded delivery.

I have been there and one this too.
DVLA are shite end of.
They are still sending me reminders and letters for a car that was scrapped 3 years ago.
They received the V5 from "SIGNED" for, and a FAX direct from approved recyclers.
Since then there have been two letters confirming they know it has been scrapped, and still more bills and threats of court action.
I have since photographed the car at the scrapyard, but still they send them.
This has happened on four out of the last 5 cars that were got rid of by me, three of those went straight into the crusher, V5 sent by approved recyclers etc same crap letters threats.
The onus is on THEM, courts are well aware the ROYAL FAIL lose pretty much anything it touches, and will not convict you, DVLA will not take you to court, they send a officer to see if the car is parked on the public road, that's all they can do, as they can't prove you are using it untaxed as you aren't!!

Did you do a Sold As Seen? if so photocopy t and send it them them, I had to do this on one of my old cars, i got a speeding fine through the door 2 months after i sold the car. The date the offence took place i had sold the car. Just sent the sold as seen paper work off, and all done, didn`t have to pay a thing.

I've had this happen, i rang and explained to them that i had sold the car sent the log book off etc etc and that i didnt know the new keepers details.... they said put it all in writing with an approximate date that i sold the car.... i then received a letter about a week later telling me that no further action would be taken and i didn't have to pay the £40 fine.

i sold a car feb 06 sent the logbook off & thought that was the end of it till jan 07 when i got a reminder tried to phone a few times & the one time i did get through a complete & utter W****R was telling me it was my problem not theres & would have to pay the fine unless i could tell them who i sold it to 1 YEAR LATER so i paid the fine in the end as i was spending more money on the phone trying to get in touch but thinking about it now i should have just waited for them to take me to court & argued it out as ive now heard a few people have had this problem & seen it on here aswell but now it just seems to be getting worse than ever
