for the last 4 months this guy at work has been going on how fast his 1.8 vectra is . he reckons its the best thing since sliced bread and that hes going to wipe the flood with me in a race. his vecta so good that he cant even pull away from my 1.6 focus shopping car.he has even been going around work bigging himself up about it and bet me £100 on a 1/4 mile race what should i do ???????????
b4 i took my rs off the road it had 179bhp but since had rebuilt and loads of goodie

 

well I wiped the floor with my mates 1600 16V vectra in my Standard bhp S1...

 

if you know your RST is quicker than your focus then you already know your going to beat him - easy money really.

I had an SRI 2.5 V6 vectra and and was lethargic as fuck through the box. Only thing he will get you on is top end speed.

i have a 1.6 16v astra and you have to strip it and add a air filter before you get anywhere near what vauxhall reckons they can achieve...the lag and dead spots throught the rev range is shocking...and newer cars just get heavier and slower! haha!

 

If it was an 2.5 it will fight ya rs proper hard! i had my mates & other ppl with 2.5's & they will push ya rs tooo the limit! (without throwing a rod )

VECTRA's are slow even with V6, a 1.8 in a barge like vectra is easy picking for an RST, take his money, and his street cred, sorry it's a vectra he doesn't have any!!

Saying that, an RST against a vectra on the strip what will win? It depends really, be interesting to see what makes it further up the 1/4 mile, can the RST that will no doubt eat its own engine manage to roll over the finish line before the vectra completely oxidises away?

If no one manages to cross the line, the winner should be the one closest to the finish ( but you prob won't get any times, they only start to measure after 60ft). Be careful if it is windy though, it might be in the right direction to carry a few flakes of vectra rust up the strip.

 

Make sure you say that if either car breaks it's off

Unless he has changed the engine, even a standard RST would hand him his arse.

Agree to the bet, and insist you both give the 100 pounds to a third party to hold onto.

Just to make sure you dont fluff the start and lose out when you should have won, make it so you both spend the day at the pod and whoever gets the best time wins, as your car is likely to be less consistant that his, so more goes is in your favour.

i have had many vectras and never raced a single one
but once on a motorway in a 2.0 16v sri tourer x reg, i had a
cock in a 1.6 focus undertake me after going through roadworks.
i put my boot in and the focus sailed past undertaking.
i stared at the badge it said 1.6 and looked newish.
after that i just see anything less than a v6 as not very fast

 

bet him log book to log book then see how much faith he has in his car, imo even the 2.5 gsi vectra's have a hard time keeping up from the same brake powered rs turbo's. think you would piss on him.

 

well my s2 has a zvh in and this week alone ive dusted a impreza wagon and a vr6 golf i know its not worthy of a trophey but if i can beat them im sure you will beat that vectra, unless it has a supercharged v8 under the bonnet

 

If it's deffo a 1.8 then you will have no trouble beating it. I currently own a 2.0 Vec and it's nowhere near as quick as an RS. Slow off the line and very heavy car in comparison.

If you want to show him my reply, feel free. He's either saying it to get a bite from you or he's deluded about his Vec's speed and prowess.

 

or you can allways be the not bothered type... and just ignore him... then see what happens, by the sound of it he will up the bets and take the piss, then agree when he gets into stupid money and agree to have it held by a 3rd party... then leave him in the rs... return to collect your money and wait...
