Any ideas where I can get a new one or does anyboody have any ideas how to improve the appearance of mine. It's not too bad, just a bit saggy by the sun visors and also just above the rear window.

I've checked with Ford who have confirmed that the part is now discontinued.

Any ideas??

My Escort one was sagging and filthy. I took it to Barton & Son Coachworks in Luton who recovered the original backing. It now looks better than new and only cost Ł100 from memory.

You can make a tiny little nick in it ands spray in HALSTEAD carpet glue, through the tube, leave 10 seconds then press back end of job, just gently push little nick together you won't see it afterwards as only needs to be 3mm.

Mine is the same n funnily enough i went 2 b&q tonight n bought some carpet spray glue n im gonna try n repair mine. Does anyone know if u have 2 clean the surface that the cloth part has 2 stick 2.

 

You can try the above method, but the biggest problem with the Saff. rooflinings is that the foam disintegrates, causing the sagging.

IF you can remove ALL the foam, then yes it is possible to restick it, but that normally does more damage than good.

Unfortunately, the heat from the roof panel in summer overheats the spray adhesives and the linings sag again so a restick will normally be a temp. solution. I have done this 4 times so far with different linings for people and only 1 has stayed up (the 1 with a/c on in summer)

You can always put the cloth velour from the old rooflining onto a more base-model version which does not use it. Foam is not there in the 1st place then to remove

 

Or well i will give it a go if not i cud stick some drawing pins in the cloth 2 hold it like my mate said hee hee lol.

 

Well its the n/s/r of my head lining that is baggy im gonna take the roof handles off n scrape all the orange foamy stuff n spray this carpet glue stuff ive just bought n try that.

 

If you can, you'd be better removing the rooflining complete through the boot and do it. You can leave it then to set properly without gravity trying to spoil things before you put it back.

I'd leave it personally about 3 days to make sure.

 

Is it easy getting the head lining out of the boot then.

 

Out, yes.

Back in without damaging it, not so easy, unless you have an assistant. The hardest point is getting it through the rear firewall with the rear strut mounts in the way.

 

Or bloody hell well i will try glueing the head lining in place before i try n take it out.

 

Trust me, the hardest time to remove a rooflining is the 1st time.

I have done it so many times I can remove and refit in 10 minutes including removing all the handles, trims, etc...

If in doubt when you get stuck, stop, take a step back and think about it. Then try again

 

10 mins thats bloody quick. Do they not show crease marks when u put the head lining back in. So since u took urs out n re glued it its been ok since or does it keep sagging down.

 

Other than mine, they have all sagged (I suspect that mine stayed up because my a/c works and helps keep it all cooler). I took mine out and put it in the other half's 2000e ready for the 'leccy roof conversion to follow and put a nice new one in mine that just happened to be sitting in the loft in a bag

As far as the timescale, they are not hard to do:
undo and remove a-post trims
remove sunvisors
remove any sunroof console after winding back sunroof and also remove beaded edge
remove 4 x grab handles (yes, mine has 4 grab handles, not 3 like normal)
unclip c-post trims down to the rear seatbelt anchorage points
Remove door app. seals on upper edge
lower back seats to access boot area
push front seats completely forward then wind forward completely
lower rooflining, taking care with the sticky pad holding it to the roof
slide forward to the windscreen so it clears the c-post trims. Slide out of the car gently via the boot.

Refitting it reverse of removal, except you need to find a way of sticking the backing card to the roof (some people use windscreen adhesive, some use double-sided tape, others don't bother)
