Default 4x4 or 2wd?

Hi all. I'm going for a new car next year and the sapph cosworth is one im defo looking at even though my insurance would be just over 2 grand! what can i say i love Cosworths!

My question basicly is what would be best to get, the 4x4 or the 2wd, obviously i want to have some fun driving the car, abit sideways too as we do :P

Any replies would be great

Cheers, Dave

2wd mate, loads more fun. plus the gear box's are stronger for when you up the horses! just my opinion.

2wd a lot tougher in the transmission department, and cheaper to run, BUT need to be careful in the wet, as they are wild, more so when tuned, just treat with respect(a lot).
I still get nervous in the wet(with the car!!), got to use your ears a lot and listen to turbo spooling.
4x4 a very good car, very safe predictable handling.
If you can why not try to blag a drive in each as they drive different so you can see which you prefer to drive.
For the same power 2wd will always be faster due to transmission losses, but off the line up to around 35mph at least the 4wd has the edge.
There is less to go wrong on a 2wd, if you are going to want to go to silly power levels, certainly 370/380 up then 4x4 gearbox is not going to have a good time, and is majorly expensive to get a better one.

FFS not this old chestnut.

The 4x4 is more expensive to buy than the 2WD - you think that's for no reason?

I was just pointing out that people are willing to pay more for 4x4 Cossies, for some reason.

Let the buyer beware

Sorry just did not understand the comment.
I don't really watch the prices so cant comment, maybe people do because 4x4 are newer, as they came after 2wd.
I can't understand the silly money paid for escy though!!

Yep well they're all getting to the age where condition and spec is very important, so perhaps not surprising if the gap is closing.

As for EsCos prices - supply & demand perhaps? Maybe the same with Saff 2wd vs 4x4?

Totally agree with the comments above, especially tabetha. I personally went with a 4x4 as my first cossie as so many 2wd ones get written off and i'm an experienced driver, used to driving 2wd vehicles at high speed in the wet (I had many a hairy moment driving rear wheel drive transits with a heavy cage in the back on blues and twos when I was in uniform). I'd go 4x4 to start with if you can stretch to the extra cost, especially if you aren't planning on going about 330 brake.

Ineperienced rwd driver, buy a 4x4,2wd nt nice in the wt,and even catches you out in the dry some times, and ive been driving rwd cars for 20 yr,but if you want to be a hero at the local cruize then buy a 2wd andget a quick fitcharge ard for rear tyres
