OK, here's the deal...

I'm 'thinking' of proposing to her

I have no idea how to go about it or the best way to ask the question so I'm thinking the hotels a good start

awww how sweet, great idea.... but probably a lot cheaper to go to Paris? though she might click then...

you will more than likely have to book claridges months in advance, aint there any other swanky hotels in london? the ritz?

i dont know your budget obviously

have you got her a ring yet?

Dicko&Sarah i heard her mention Claridge's ages ago hence why i thought it would be a good start.

I've had a look at a few rings but there's just so many & I'm not the best when it comes to choosing stuff like that

Go into a jewellers, tell em what you want, platinum always a good choice, with a decent weight diamond, or take a woman who knows her to help choose, cant beat a solitaire with good carat of diamond

white gold is crap, needs re dipping every year or so, i learnt this and ended up changing to a 18ct yellow gold one instead

If she wants Claridges, could be the perfect setting.....

good luck anyway

There are plenty of flashy hotels about London mate so shop about. Some of the prices are horrendous! Mum and Dad stayed at the Ritz last month for a night and it was Ł650 for the night and breakfast was over Ł30 each I think. Thats weekend abroad money!!!!

I stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hook, Hampshire for 5 days a few weeks back with work and that is real flash, out in the countryside, food was awesome, loads to do, big Spa, indoor pool etc etc... Proper 5 star! Bit cheaper, think rooms are about the Ł350 a night. Could be more of a romantic place to propose than London?

Arh go on AJ get it done i popped the question to my miss's a month back down on one knee bottle of champers and asked her if she will let me have a stroker engine, no shit i mean marry me lol, best thing i have every done mate,

Claridges is meant to be fantastic, if you can affrod it then do it you would hate to have any regrets,

As for this one carrot crap, my Fiance tried on the one l had put by for her and it was to big she ended up with .68 of a carrot but top quality at that, platinum, remember bigger is not always better in diamonds,

Good luck

My missus isnt into 'bling' so it has to be something really nice but not over the top.

I'll have a look at some more rings later on this week

pmsl@ carrot!

Sometimes the bigger the carat it looks a bit " big" if you only have small fingers

mines .33 a carat but square not round so slightly bigger than a round one of same weight

platinum is really really nice though

If you want some Indian food with a difference, go to a restaraunt called Mint Leaf. You will love it. Very cool. Let me know if you have trouble getting in.

AJ - I took the mrs to London for her 21st, so wanted it to be one to remember. Now i looked at a few 5 star places like the Ritz etc(to be honest once you get into the centre of London they are minimum of 4 Star) 1 thing you should look at is in a lot of the 5star places you need to wear a suit and dickie bow for the meals. Now where i wanted it to be something else i thought this was a bit over the top and not us.

I finally found a place called the Langham just off of Oxford street in the west end. it was a spot on place and 5 Star not to pricey and even had a few celebs staying there. We shared a lift with Paula Ratcliff and turned out she was staying 2 doors away from us. Also bumped into 2 the bill stars around oxford street. Also places like selfridges are quite close which i'd imagime she'd wanna see. Also most of the big theatres are near there for all the shows.

Anyway in short i couldnt recomend this place enough we were treated like kings. It might be the thing your looking for. I think that when u go u need to think about where the hotel is positioned also as u dont wanna be to far out from the main things to see.

hope this helps let me know if u wanna know more

http://london.langhamhotels.com/index.html

Just looked in the brochure i had and its listed just under claridges.lol

I have stayed at The Cumberland at Marble Arch a couple of times now, it's extremely modern and funky. Also the restaurant is Gary Rhodes W1.

Would recommend a suite

I took my missis there for her 21st.

Its uber posh and pricey but 5star service and food. I didnt actually stay there we just had a meal though. Like your missis she mentioned it a few times and said she would love to go there so i thought fuk it, put the rs on ice for a months and saved my money

Your right in the west end so theres plenty of good jazzy bars and cocktail bars. Not the place you'd go with the lads buy perfect with the missis

Id booked 4 months in advance for our table and i only just got it so id book now if you want to go.

It might be an idea dinning at claridges, then hitting the westend bars and stay at another hotel which is just as classy but a bit cheaper.

Food plus room at claridges is going to be fooking exspensive believe me.

Just to give you a idea of prices my meal for 2 was Ł206

I used this site when i was planning my night.
http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/search-pub.aspx

You can search for hotels, pubs, clubs, restaurants and you can type in a area or tube station and it shows you all the bars, restaurants etc within walking distance.

My advice to you is plan it all out where your going before hand and have back up bars incase things go wrong

Good luck mate

clarriges is a nice hotel, used to have my tea break in there when i worked on hanover square

its in mayfair and 500 meters from oxford street so,,,, well thats why its the cash

i wouldnt class it as a proper place but then as i said i used to have a deal with the door staff there so i used it for my morning tea breaks when i was covering that part of the area

IMO the BEST hotel in the entire area is on long acre in covent garden,,, cant remember the name but almost opposite of hippodrome and on the other side of the road of browns resturaunt,,,, PROPER place to eat with nice flames outside

thats also closer to northumberland embankment where there is the boat called the queen mary

SERIOUSLY,, when i was 18 i used to take birds there from other countrys and have a few drinks and then when the sun was going down and the lights on the boat where reflecting on the thames,,,,,,,, trust me i NEVER failed to pull on there,,,, and for about 3 months i was on that boat monday, wednesday and thursday with another bird,,,,, the bloke behind the bar thought i was some sort of escort

if i was gonna propse then that would have been the choice,,,, well if i didnt ruin it for me by using it as a cheep way to get old of foreign post grad studants when i was 18

seriously mate,,,, the mood of the area is ALOT beter than the hotel part of it IMO

flashy hotels are for girls who either you wanna keep em at that level all the time your with them,,,,,,, or a way to get hold of that bird who AINT giving it up and its the only way,,,,, but then dump the bitch and carry on with your life

dinner in browns,, then a walk down to the square and look at the water before hailing a black cab to take you down the road to the queen mary and chill with the lights going down and then,,,,, when shes all gooey and soppey like birds get,,,, thats when she puts he gaurd down and sees your a sensative person who shares the same interests as her

thats when you nail her and she regrets is and chooses to be friends,,,,,,

honestly if i was rich i would BUY that boat,,,,, it works BETTER than rohypnol and its LEGAL
