Roll cage steel or ally?
not for a out and out track car far from it, but would like summat in for some protection if summat happened and a bit of bling factor. reason i'm thinking ally is for reduced weight and isn't ally super strong in section/tube anyway?

Seriously, Get a proper cage Lee. Something FIA approved from Safety Devices/OMP etc. Or if you can afford a custom fitted T45 cage, will be light but mega expensive!

If fitted properly they will provide good roll-over protection in my opinion. They may not save the shell in a big accident, or look quite as bling as a custom job. But for road and the occasional track day I think they are a very good option!
When I was looking for a cage for my 205 it was either £3k for a custom full weld in cage with about 1 million bars, or £300 for an OMP one. I looked at plenty of pictures of crashed 205s fitted with OMP/Safety Devices cages and they all stood up well!
If you are going through a forset at 120mph into trees then if would be a different matter
If you have a accident with a alloy cage your more than likely to be killed by the cage when it caves in on you 
Why people fit them at ALL is beyond me, anyone can have a crash on track or on the road and I'd rather know my cage is going to keep the car together in some way.

Nothing really to do with this post but my engine builder knew a guy who use his cage as part of his fuel tank!!.
The cage was full of fuel. No one could understand how he could go so long with out pitting

For all those takin the piss out of my Suggestion, can i just point out...
I wasn't suggesting a fukkin dimma Half Cage for fuk sake, 316 Grade Stainless Steel is as strong... If it was built specificaaly for that car, why would it be dangerous? Had Lee from Fusion fabrication come on here and offered to build him one you'd have all been up his fukkin Arse

as for stainless it may be strong under certain loadings but is also brittel and less mallable than mild steel.
If the car was hit hard the cage may snap rather than just deform.
I have seen a stainless Fusion Fab cage and it must have been a show only cage because it offered no protecton what so ever.
It was mounted at the back off two pieces of 2mm sheet stainless in single shear.
If it offers no protection and it adds a shed load of weight, what the hell is the point of having it?????

My point was, that it would form more protection than nothing at all (if mounted with decent mounting points etc), he stated that he didn't want a full on track/race cage, and he wanted to add a bit off bling...
