Default Cosworth Weber ECU's....

Whats best for a 2wd? I currently have a L1, and was thinking maybe a L6?

What about the L8? Is that even better then the L6? i know you have to swap the TPS sensor wires over, but is there anything else you need to do?

Cheers!
Mike

L8 mate.

It has more storage capacity, which allows a lot more features, such as closed loop, and Stu's newly developed ALS.

where have you been these past 3 years?

boXXer - you'll need a PF09 TPS as well.

Yea it is - either Black or Red, but it is distinguishable from the Red 2wd sensor as that has PF01 on it, rather than PF09

There is a knock sensor too - i think you need to get that turned off in the ecu software (mapper) if you arent going to run it.

Unless you need lambda control, or any of the 'optional extras' that need the extra space in the ROM, stick with the L6.

If you want the Anti Lag (unless you're rallying, why would you? ), closed loop (how often does a Cossie spend OFF boost ), or launch control, you'll need (as above):

an L8 ECU
a PF09 TPS
and a new chip (for your setup) for the L8, as L6 and L8 chips aren't interchangable.

If it aint broke, don't fix it

If you have a 3 door with the L1, keep it safe, and stick an L6 in, as there's more of them spare

Notice the winks Tongue in cheek - it's up to the individual, just adding my humble opinion. I haven't used anti lag, and don't honestly see a benefit (but do understand the principle) of anti lag on a road car, thats all.

Dont forget to add decent throttle angle mapping, ISCV with Voltage compensation, sensible transient fuel control options and the fabulous diagnostic datastream output ability.

Also maybe coming soon.
Closed loop BOOST control.

Oh, and it doesnt burn out for no apparent reason like the L6 dioes either

Everytime you think there is nothing he can do anymore to perfect the system he's back with another great option...unbelieveble Stu, GREAT R&D!

Very curious what it all does though...

no poll needed - it is a fact that L8 is better

it's just whether you feel the need to spend on it, but i would given that closed loop fuelling will easily save you the cost of an L8 and an MSD chip in a year or so depending on how much you drive it

Stu is it true that they burn out due to high injector duty cycle - creating more heat etc?

Its certainly a contributing factor to teh earth tracks overheating as peak and hold injectors take a good lump of current thriough the system when pushed too hard, but it has nothing to do with the fuel pump drive circuit failing, nor has it anything to do with the ISCV circuit bursting into flames either.

Have you any idea what your on about?!

Decent throttle angle mapping makes it worth going to the L8 alone IMO.
Whole world of drivability difference, no longer is it off or full throttle, was the biggest change I noticed when nobbing the L6 off.

If you think ALS does nothing you either just drive in straight lines like most Cossie owners, or jus dunno what your on about.

And the Lambda thing is just stupid, unless you own a race car, most Cossies get pussied around to shows n meets for most their lives.

personally wouldn't use closed loop.....don;t see the point on a tuned cossie....

I get fuel ec off boost and maximum cooling on boost

Best of both worlds

No, I probably don't know what I'm talking about - depending on who you talk to, I rarely do. I don't claim to be an expert. All I do is offer my opinions, and if I do happen to actually 'know' something, I'll pass it on if no-one else beats me to it.

I know what anti-lag does and why it's used - however, unlike the majority, I don't think a road car needs it.

What I was trying to say was that if boXXer wants the new 'accessories' that one of Stu's L8s can provide, then great - have one, but if he doesn't, why bother?

Mine takes a daily thrashing, because that's what it was designed for. I didn't buy it to save money or to be economical. And, because it's my only car, it comes out rain or shine, and isn't averse to taking corners properly The only time it gets pussied about is when the fuel light's on after I've emptied the tank after giving it a proper drive!

basically, im never gunna run ALS, and probably never closed loop, as i dont use the car that often. So i wouldnt buy a L8 on those principles.

im interested in how it would make the car drive better/nicer compared to L6/L1's.

What sort of price do L8's go for usually?
