FAO Martin Reyland - Metro VVC
OK, dude, looks like I am building a metro/Rover 100 with the VVC lump in it. After seeing yours at donnington a few years back, it really made me want one
However, I was looking for some assistance as I have heard rumours that the 1.8 engine is prone for letting the headgasket go. Obviously, i don't want to be changing this every weekend. Also, could you let me know what other problems I am likely to run into in doing the conversion myself?
Do I need to fabricate any parts, which gearbox/driveshafts do I need to run?
Your help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers fella

Mate- no offence to martin at all here- its a really popular conversion.
If you look about you'll prob find one done already- and loads of info.
Headgaskets are for fun... but if you take the engine apart you're putting in and give it a freshen up it'll be fine I bet.

Well, I've seen a couple on a metro site, but had no response as yet, and can't find a definitive guide on how to do the conversion. There's a dirt cheap metro near me you see, so I was going to do it myself.
I know Martoon has some MGF suspension on the front too, so was interested in knowing what he has done there

My friend does Rovers as a business, most of it doing headgaskets!!
He says the first ones were made with PLASTIC locating dowels, which move and blow the gasket, th later ones have METAL dowels and athe VERY latest have a far better gasket material, he has as yet not had one of these fail, including some race/rally cars running them.
It is a VERY good engine and VERY underated IMO, I have always thought a bout a 1.8 metro would be a good car as well.
Even better is the fact that an Emerald ecu will plug straight in to the same loom plug!!
