i dont smoke but i was in the pub last night and there were people trying to suck unlit fags, smoke them through straws with the cig out of the window, and generally moaning. they're like fucking lemmings lining up to jump

I'm sick of pisshead drinkers who go out on a weekend binge drinking and smashing the place up / fighting / being sick everywhere .... maybe we should ban drinking too???

I'm also sick of cars polluting the atmosphere with exhaust fumes ..... deffo ban cars!!

Whilst I'm at it ..... I'm sick of looking at fat people and the drain they present to the NHS due to bad healh. I think ALL fatty foods should be banned!

 

The majority of people own cars themselves so cant really moan about pollutants.

The majority of people who drink dont fight/vandalise/sprew up everywhere.

Fat people are not causing other people health issues.

However, all smokers who CHOOSE to smoke in public places and workplaces DO have an effect on others, and cause health issues and other negative effects for others.

If you cant see how selfish this is (or WAS ) then you really are ignorant mate and need to open your eyes to see through all that smoke blurring your vision on life.

 

I'm not getting into an argument about it ..... I'm a non-smoker so don't care whether people smoke or not ….. BUT the people for just say it’s a good thing without considering the affect on civil liberties are very narrow minded.

Just because the ‘majority’ do something doesn’t make it right and won’t stop the government banning it if they want to.

Maybe not the majority of people but you have to admit it’s a MASSIVE problem in the UK’s cities and towns …. Will it be the next thing to be banned?? How about we are all fitted with electronic chips which only allow us to purchase 4 pints a day?

They do …. due to extended NHS waiting lists.

The issue isn’t whether people should be allowed to smoke or not …. Its whether the government should be able to make that decision for us!

Why not allow pubs/clubs to apply for a licence to allow people to smoke? Non-smokers / workers can go else where Rather than an outright ban?

 

You are of course totally correct mate, and it is fucking scarey just how many things the government can choose to ban.

Im glad there is a smoking ban personally, but I do fear for my civil liberties with laws like this and the Section59 for cars etc.

 

A group called Freedom2Choose www.freedom2choose.co.uk have just applied for a judicial review to the smoking ban, not to overturn it, but to have it ammended to allow smoking/no smoking areas in pubs etc. no smoking at the bar etc, much the same as it was before really. About time someone stood up for smokers, the non smokers won't like it, but just like we've had to accept the ban, so they'll have to accept the ammendments if it goes through.

 

John Laverick, some fair points in there mate i agree.

I just find it funny how some smokers get all denfensive over it and moan that its happened, when many are ignorant to its effects on other people.

Im sure these people will eventually see the light and realise how selfish they were, without even knowing it.

Anyway, i could go on forever talking about this, but i wont.

 

Im sure that as long as non-smokers dont have to smell or breath in the smoke, then they wont have any problems with it at all mate.

Although i cant see any ammendments being made personally as its worked fine in Scotland and Wales for a while now and many smokers even agree with the reasons behind it.

Anyway, i have an idea, i might try and ram half of my pint down a non-drinking smokers throat, just to see if he/she likes it. Maybe they'll understand a bit more using this method.

 

If you think cigarette smoke is the number pollutant, you need to open your fucking eyes. We're being treated as public enemy number1 for no reason, there's plenty of other harmful pollutants out there, some might surprise you. As alchohol evaporourates it gives off more carcinogens than a single cigarette!

 

KregRS, there may very well be mate. But i dont sit next to an exhaust pipe for half a night.

The governmant are encouraging people to use lpg for this very reason and i think i heard that in about 10 years time, the majority of cars will run on lpg.

As for alchol, it may very well be the next thing on the governments hit list.

 

Hope alchohol is next on the list. I don't drink, see no need to, and don't see why I should have to put up with the behaviour of people who can't handle theirs.

No government will ever ban smoking fullstop, too many lost votes.
Likewise no government will ever ban alcohol.

With the smoke fumes being so directly related to other peoples health they had a strong reason on that one, with alcohol though they have no chance of winning votes by doing it, so they wont.

 

If the Almighty Government were that bothered about smoking being a health risk, the sale and UK production of Tobacco products would be made illegal, but because x millions in tax come in from them, they won't.

I'm all for keeping my civil liberties, and one of them is the right to choose not to be choked by second hand tobacco smoke because someone 'needs' a fag. Another liberty that Tony Totalitarian Blair (and Gordon Brownbum) started quickly eroding is to be free to choose where to go without being watched or followed, but that's another topic entirely.

I honestly don't believe that any 'anti-ban' people would want to experience first hand what it's like being unable to help your other half while she hacks her guts up because an inconsiderate sod 'needed' a fag, while we wait for the bus. It was a horrid experience, and I didn't fancy getting a criminal record for punching his lights out "because he was having a fag." The real clincher was that he just sat there puffing away - didn't ask if she was alright, or think that she was fine until he sparked up!

 

I can't see the problem just give up
anyone with a spine should be able to give up in 2 days

To what , let others including kids breathe that fucking disgusting shit as they try and enjoy a meal or a decent pint , to go out to a club only to come back smelling fucking disgusting through no fault of your own ?

The only reason the government wont ban them in their entirety is the fact they make too much money in tax despite being an addictive drug

 

i have stopped smoking 10 weeks ago and i dont drink ever, so i dont care one way or the other about smoke in pubs.

what i do find a little ironic though not to mention disconcerting is the only place to be exempt from this ban is the bar in the house of commons.

certainly smacks of do what i say not what i do.

 

Ian M,,,, you forgot that the house of comons is also a subsidised bar too,, that means they get cheep drinks,,,,, generally on expences too


but i dont care,, theres LOADS of shite they get,,, its life im afraid and we cant fight it just like when you was 7 and your parents made you go to bed at 7pm,,, cant fight them and win either

but i DO think a smoking ban is a good thing,,, though its making me think that they aint gonna legalise drugs in the near future
