Default Trackday preparation

Due to a bit of luck (sort of) ihave come into possesion of an old S2 and have decided to indulge her in some almost dedicated track time.

All i know is that she has a stage2 turbo but have seen a dyno of her producing 180odd bhp

What else do i need to do to get her ready, as advice is always welcome?

I know shes running a standard intercooler so that needs uprating, will the smaller of the two pace units be adequate?

Is an oil cooler necessary?

What clutch should i budget for (presuming she has a standard one)

What suspension should i try to get hold of?

Are there any other areas i should look to get hold of, such as anti-roll bars etc?

Whats the best brake upgrade to have?

This is all down to a very small budget, im not spending zillions, but i want to cut my teeth on trackdays with this car as its quick, not worth very much, and not a good enough car to worry about killing if i do have an off.

Your knowledge and help will be really really appreciated, its a bit of a minefield out there....

Cheers

Best way to track prep a RST is to sell it and buy a pug 205. 100 times better on track for the same money if not less

lol thanks but i cant be bothered with the hassles of selling it and sometimes its not about having the 'best' but rather enjoying the car, warts and all.

Understand where you are coming from but you will get far more enjoyment throwing a 205 round track than a RST - and also better results without spending a fortune.

To be very very honest,if you're on a tight budget,as you say you are, then youre wasting your time.Old RST's with no money spent on them go "POP" when pushed hard.Either spend money on the car to get it reliable/just do trackdays till it blows up or sell it and buy a 205/CRX/golf gti etc etc.Regards,Micky

sorry for the no replies

I can spend around Ł400 a month

I know there are better cars out there for the sort of money im going to be spending but the car is simply for trying out trackdays to see if i like them or not, if i do then il keep the rst ticking over for a couple of years while i prepare something a bit more specialised for the track. I have an STi impreza at the moment as my weekend car but the roads are to busy and dangerous (and illegal!) so ive been told by the powers that be and a friend to find a shed and to try out a trackday.

What im after is key areas of upgrading, i dont want to spend a fortune on something that isnt really useful. Such as an oil cooler. If i need one then ill buy one, if not then i wont bother.....

sorry im typing this secretly whilest at work

my mates got a std RST and turned it into track car, on a budget, but i'm sure he's spent alot more than he was going too.

He's fitted,

wilwood Brakes, but 4wd set up is cheaper and will be fine.
Coilovers,
Alloy rad,
Alloy FMIC,
bucket seat, harness, and cage,
15" alloys with toyo 888's fitted,
Zorst, A/f,
good Std engine and turbo,
Chip, and boost to 15psi.

im going to get the car re-mot's in a couple of weeks and ask the guy to look at the health of the engine at the same time, he used to work on rst's in his apprentice days years ago.

Im on the hunt for an intercooler, better suspension and the brake upgrade.
