Seen a Dax rush running a few times at the British Hill Climb championships.

Rover V8 with Sierra Cosworth running gear.

Absolute animal, always dominated its class

Are you buying a complete one, or building your own?

I lent a 2.0 pinto Dax of a friend of mine, it was awesome, wanted one ever since!

Quality is good, but they are quite heavy for what they are and overpriced.

What engine do you want to fit and what will you use the car for?

I would personally but a Vortex RT+ from MNR sportscars.

Half the price and higher quality if you are after a sports/track car IMHO

how much is a dax??

my friend (with some help from me) bought and registered a brand new westfield, built all in 9 months or so.

i must say the quality is superb, its on an 07 plate (not a crappy q) and i'm very impressed, and for only a 1.6 it dont half go

I think a basic car can be built and on the road for around 8 to 9K. From there on it can go only go up in cost dependent on options and power plant spec etc

Try these people.

6-7k will build you a complete top of the range one with fully adjustable, fully rose jointed inboard suspension.

They are a proper little race car for the road!

my mates whole car cost him 12k from westfield, and that was for everything....no donor car needed

although i am tempted by the idea of a 4x4 cosworth dax rush, it would be an animal

just got back from dax cars with turbo terry, was very interesting. The chap said the blue Nos bike engined one did a 10.8 quarter at 161mph at TOTB 400bhp and 400KG

sure the geeza said this one was 8 litre? but i couldnt quite hear him as he was reversing back into the showroom

we both went out in this one!!! Modelled by chris..! 310bhp 4.3 litre rover V8 and weighed 750kg. Was quick altho the pansy driving it didnt rev it past
4k

think chris is seriously tempted, altho the price does mount up

he will be home by now he dropped me off bout half hour ago so he will post his comments!

on way home spotted a red erst for sale too, 220bhp and Ł1850 was far from mint tho

good pics, an i look fookin mint.cheers for coming with me biggsy

was impressed, but bloke drove like miss daisy, 310hp apparently from rover v8 8ks worth or engine

want a v8 but again doesnt seem cost effective, for the power, noise made me wee though

thick i'll look at some others before i spend me dosh, also as i'm a lanky cunt they want Ł250 more for a lanky spec one. basic kit is 1800 plus vat + 250, andthat is only for the body and chassis, no suspension

will have a look at those garage 19 , have you or a mate got one then??

Nice one Chris, blue bike engined one was mega fast at totb.

I should think one of those with a 200hp xe would be awesome, let alone a well tuned one

I wouldn't have a V8 one, I should think it would be sideways everywhere if you gave it death which although is cool is not really making full potential of such a good chassis.

I'd start with a hot xe then maybe move onto a YB if I didn't find it fast enough (which I think it would be as it would shit the life out of most people)

yeah to be honest i want a v8 for the noise, but heavy old beast and big dosh to tune, and as you say siedways which is fun but...

just spoke to this MNR place, arranged to take me out in a bike engined one, a damn site cheaper, he says i should defo go bike engined, let you know how it goes says 400kg is poss

thing is with the dax you have to specify which engine you want as you cantj ust change engine mounts its an integral part of the chassis so couldnt change engines at a later date, but i guess pinto an cossie would be similar anyhow

ohhh i dunno

Chevy V8 is not expensive to tune at all, steel crank, steel rods and forged pistons for well under 2k from the states ! still think there would be too much low down torque though which is why the bike engines work so well as they have very little torques

Hot pinto would be a good starter though and still bloody mental, why not just spend 4k on a Alloy cossy block to keep the weight down whilst your at it

Proper cars though but horrible for anything but track days and a bit of a sunday burnup

a rover V8 is almost identical wieght to a dressed YB engine , and a YB mounts exactly the same as a pinto....

What about an N/A cossie YB? 9k RPM on twin 52's now THAT would be mental

A Rover V8 is shit end of

NA Yb is cool but you will pay for the luxury and tbh for what it costs you may as well have a 400hp turbo yb under the bonnet.

I only mentioned XE as it is relatively cheap to get 200hp from, yb is going to need all sorts but the rods and crank are well proven to take the power and revs.

Hayabusa would be tasty though

YB turbo is the natural choice for me, it's what the chassis is designed for - I looked VERY seriously at building one, its easily the best option IMHO

XE is great engine for 200BHP cheap and reliable

dont want a cossie lump end of. I like v8's thats why i want one dont care if you think they are shite! i know it's not the best choice hence i'm looking at other things, may do chevy v8 depending on price etc

bike engined or tuned xe me thinks at the mo

i'll make my mind up when i've been out in them all

Biggsy - not sure yet when i get another day offski, it's in Basildon, not their demonstrator just one a bloke has built, that will take me out and to have a look at the quality

V8 once rolling will be insane and the fact you can get more h/p than most chassis's can take out of it makes it very tempting.

Either way once its done pop over as I'll enjoy having the living crap scared out of me lol

You can get a brand new crate LS1 V8 AND the T56 6-speed box for Ł4200

Rover V8's are cheap , reasonably light being all alloy (weight the same as most steel blocked 2.0l engines) and sound awsome, just cost a fortune to get big BHP out of them

4200 that makes it a 10 grand car at least, not really what its about , would love to if i had the dosh, but bike engine or 2.0l xe etc sounds much more viable and cost effective, although i still want a v8

cheers for the info though chaps

go bike engine. 900cc and up. busa will cost about 3k and give you about 170-180bhp or a R1 for about 1-2k 145-`170bhp i think. theres lots of other bike engines to choose from with 100bhp upwards for little money.

im building a Mongoose (see sig) with a 1988 kawasaki zx10 engine mid mounted. deristricted carbs and a full stainless system, bout 140bhp and the car will weigh around 350kgs so 400bhp/ton Its smaller than a 7 style car.

my mate has a dax rush....it was quick with the 150bhp pinto lump.....but he deided to bin that and went for a c20 let (calibra turbo)lump with external waste gate various other mods and was 330 bhp and was very quick.
it is at the moment without an engine due to having a full rebuild t38 turbo autronic and should be the best part of 400 bhp,and lots of fun,i'll try to put some pic's up later

If you love the V8 sound and are on a budget get a Rover lump, if you have a bit more cash get the Aluminium Chevy LS1 engine

Pic of a sweet Rover lump for the haters

"Makes 453hp and just over 500lbft torque at peak of 5000rpm. boost is quite low aswell around 10psi.
after this the cam runs out, Quite pleased with this as there is still 9k left in the procharger rpm limit and maybe a different cam for later devcelopment"

A nova with a stock 150hp xe that ran a sub 9 around the ring and with 100 shot of gas ran a 13.05 on the 1/4

My mate runs a rover engine in his Capri, they are cheap but they are useless at making power on a budget which is why I would steer clear.

It is all IMO though, I always said if I ever had a kit car it would have a xe in it or a yb, most probably NA too as they are proven to be excellent.
