They are dirt cheap second hand, very light and sound 10 times better than any 4 pot could. The only downside is the cost of getting big power, but a mildly tuned 4.6 in a Dax Rush would still be fun.
If you love the V8 sound and are on a budget get a Rover lump, if you have a bit more cash get the Aluminium Chevy LS1 engine

A nova with a stock 150hp xe that ran a sub 9 around the ring and with 100 shot of gas ran a 13.05 on the 1/4

My mate runs a rover engine in his Capri, they are cheap but they are useless at making power on a budget which is why I would steer clear.

It is all IMO though, I always said if I ever had a kit car it would have a xe in it or a yb, most probably NA too as they are proven to be excellent.
