Sorry I tried a search and just too many results came back

How hard is it to change the cambelt on a cossie? I've got a new set of lifters to fit but someone has recommended that because the belt has to come off I should fit a new one at the same time.

Easy to do - after the crank pulley is off (but apparently can be done without removing it.

Check and then double-check the cam timing after fitting a new belt, then triple-check by turning over the engine using a socket on the crank pulley bolt 2 complete revolutions, and adjust as one'll be a tooth out. Easiest to check the cam timing with the rocker cover off.

When tightening the belt tensioner, remember to rotate it clockwise to tighten the belt - the belt can catch on the thermostat housing if you tighten it anti-clockwise.

 

yep,easy,just dont knock the notches off the pulley!!can do it without takin it off,but is easier to take it off!!

 

Why do you have to remove the crank pulley?

That sounds like good advice for setting it up though and we'll do it with the cover off and check it over and over.

I did my timing belt on my cossie. I cudnt get the bottom pulley off so i had 2 take the radiator out 2 get a puller on the pulley. It took me about 4n a half hours 2 do,but i did use my ramp at work.

If it does have a tight pullet as some do, use some grinding paste between pulley and nose of crank and grind a little, this solves all the future problems, remember to clean off ALL traces of it afterwards!!
As jon@work says easy to do, just check carefully as mistakes are expensive, may as well do tensioner for peace of mind, or ast least give it a good spin to see what it is like.
