Default Dream better than reality

Im old enough to remember Andy Rouse spitting flames out the back of RS500 touring cars and because of this the mention of Cosworth always brought up memories of these amazing cars along with memories of incredible noise made by these cars... Even in my younger years I always said I would own a Cossie, well today I looked at a 4x4 Saff with a stage one conversion, the car was pretty straight compared to others I had seen, the leather interior was in really good condition, the shell showed no major sign of accident damage or repair and the engine sounded sweet as a nut.. it really sounded nice, overall I would describe it as a pretty good car, even now... the deal was nearly done, it ticked all the right boxes untill I was taken for a drive in it, and that changed everything.... The performance was simply unimpressive, the car felt heavy and unresponsive, I could not personally find myself wanting one that had any less than 350 bhp as I feel it would need at least this to make the car feel lively.

Im curious with regards to how much power do you feel a Cossie needs to feel quick or lively?

Rwd is plenty lively enough as standard, it'll scare the life out of you some days.

depends what you're used to.

I had an NMS stage 1 gunship on a T34, and that was very lively as a rwd car

4wd's are heavier. a 2wd could deffinately be better.

also depends how good that stage 1 was in that 4wd too..

Stage 3 is deffo the starting point nowadays though.

i know what you mean mate, you should consider a early saff, 2wd feels so much lighter and more pump when you poke the pedal

My 2wd was on a supposed Stage 1 when I bought it, I fucking hated it, didnt feel quick at all, checked boost and that was down, almost normal PSI!

Sorted that and fitted Greens and a 3bar and now it's a totally different car, still on the T3.48 and it's proper fun with much more power!

good point, was it running stg 1 power ???

if the car is right, its not expensive to get 350 bhp from theses cars !!!

i run 450 BHP and you never have enough power, you will always want more at some point !!!

Agree Dennis, you seem to get bored with it so quickly, i've not driven mine for a while so it wil feel quick again when I hope in it! but i'm sure i'll soon get used to the power again!

trouble is. unless you go in a properly set up car, it will never be as good as it can be. obviously.

so if you are looking at a stage one that hasnt been done very well

like a DIY superchip or something, that hasnt been fuel checked etc, then it will be a bit shit, sadly mate.

a proper 280-300 bhp 4x4 saph is pretty good on the road to be honest mate. I know this as thats what mine was
