Incidentally, the saff has std!! rims, coilovers with damping optimised for best launch. The car's general spec is low comp, T4 and greys, BD 14's etc etc. Would a T35 turbo allow a better and more controlled launch?The car has a quaife ATB

I would like to see the BMW lose just because it's a BMW. I think those M3's are abot the 340bhp mark so I would have thought the Cossie would stand a very good chance

You should beet the M3 over the 1/4,but the m3's with SMG and launch control are not slow !

If you need a 100 horse more to beet it,shows how good it is !

An E46 M3 driven well will do the qtr in the low 13's at around 105mph.

with a T4 powered cossie if you fuck your launch which is all too easy, you're history, so don't count your chickens just yet!

 

I have a mate with a e36 shape m3 evo with the SMG box.And to be honest the gearbox is shit.I could chnage gear quicker and smoother.So unless the new shape has a better box i would call that an advantage.

 

The new E46 M3 box is a great improvement over the early one's you will probably lose the 0-60 but win the quater mile, go for it.

 

I'm with Karl on this, it's all in the launch! Mess that up and you have lost.. once you've bogged down on a T4 there is no coming back

Get some spring assistors on the back and some sticky tyres and give it all you got! You certainly can win but it's not that easy!

I raced an M3 at the Pod two years ago, back to back three times.

In all three races, it was soooooo close - all 13.7/13.8s

Not quite sure why people slate the M3 so much though? Sure, it has the BMW badge, but it's one of the best balanced chassis for a road car available.

And what's all this "you'll destroy it" nonsense. 2/10s of a second is fook all. That's the equivalent of saying that you just thrashed the opposition football team 1-0

no doubt about it that a new M3 is a graet car.

i've raced one on a freeway from 100km/h till 240km/h.
it was not faster then my 4wd saph stage 2. and not slower either.
the bloke liked it like i did.

 

At ultimate street car a mate did consistant 14sec 1/4's could not get better after about 6 runs.....
The car was running 20" wheels with 305/30/20 tyres!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, but this was a cabriolet (more weight i guess) and it was delimited (not that it should matter on the strip).
The owner was pissed as he could not better another mates time from japfest for a celica GT4 he did 13.9 with 280bhp.

 

bmw m3 are quike but after driving and moding a cosworth thers no looking back at a m3 as thers not much you can do to them thats why cossy are so tuneable and fast i no some one with a 600 bhp m3 and his using nitrous to keep up with a stage 3 cossy 2wd and even top end the sapp has it at top end so its allll noise and not alot of action the plastice is good thous it doesnt crack but thats a bout it ow and ther not strong they smash to fuck when having a 20 mph colision sorry to m3 owners if thers any

At Ford Fair 0-60's there were a number of big power Saph's that bodged their launch and struggled to get under 7 seconds, a BMW M3 Cab, think it was an R reg, did run after run in the low 6's and high 5's. I know this is over a 0-60 and a 1/4 will be a different story, but as said before it's all about the Saph's launch. Nail it - You Win. Bodge it - You Lose!

 

Lets not forget the m3 is standard cant see you losing though with 400 horses

 

If you are not a good enough driver to launch a saph then you shouldnt own one, own an m3 instead
