Default MOT Emmissions

Guys,

Those in the know, what's the score with emissions in the test these days.

My daily runner Merc E280 failed this morning on emmissions (probably the last thing I would of thought of)

Apparantly had to be within 0.97 - 1.03 and is was actually 1.05

Was he being particularly picky ?

Recons it's the lambda sensor on its way out, if so is this an easy job as I would assume it would have two being a v6, are they easy to reach, does the ecu need resetting etc ?

Cheers
Paul

Lambda sensor reading like that, would sugest a air leak in the exhaust after the cat.

small exhaust gas leak on perhaps a joint is the usual cause of a high lambda reading

Depending on age of car it could have two in each pipe, one before and one after each cat.
he is not being picky as he can't pass it as machine says yes or nom these days, all compy linked to prevent dodgy MOT's!!.
A bloody good thrash often helps.

Funny you should mention that, as it was in the air I had a look underneath to my own benefit and as I looked at the centre section of the exhaust I saw what looked like a 10p sized hole to the rear of the box. I thought then that it would fail, but he never mentioned it

Sounds like a good repair job could be the order of the day then all makes sense
