Default Question for SECS re: EECIV -> S8

simon, i kow you're working on a plug in EECIV version of the S8 ECU but what i want to know is...

can you take the normal S8 and simply modify your existing loom so that the connector on the ECU side will match up to the S8

so basically, does the current software allow you to run the ECU with the EECIV inputs/outputs?
or is it currently set up so it will only work off the ones found on cossies

regards, Jim

Yes, that is exactly what I have done but now am adding a proper EEC4 connector
so it is truly plug and play.

Just some info for those who are interested....

There are now 4 small turbo Escort cossies and 1 fiesta RST cars with this ecu set up.

The software is identical wether its a weber or EEC4 car except for one small
option to select the desired system.

Also, the EEC4 connector has 3 different electrical layouts just to add complications.
So there will be 3 SUB versions of this version ecu when finally released
during next month.

The S8 will already run this if you are prepared to cut off the ecu plugs
and remake them.
This then allows mapping of ignition and boost only plus will
drive injectors if you fit them and dump the mechanical crap.

There WILL be an ERST truly plug and play ECU version by the end of the year.
This will be functionally and software identical to the existing S8.

for those who dont know see www.s8ecu.co.uk

So I could keep the metering head and everything else for now and map in the boost and fuel? Would this mean that I could then get shot of both ECUs from the ERST? Then junk the metering head and convert to coil pack and get proper injectors at a later date?

If so you have got me thinking now cos it looks a damn sight cheaper than Cossie management

The fuel can only be mapped to a certain extent as the black ECU (fuel) only makes minor
adjustments such as cold start etc.....
For extra power you will always need more fuel and this means extra injector(s).

WEs

I dont know enough about secs products to comment and I dont even understand the relevance to be honest.

However if u r concenred about the cost of using cossie mgment. Get a fifth injector.
They're about 250 from demon tweeks, plus a few other bits and pieces and then a set up- bet you would get it done for less than 600 quid running and thats then reliable.

Fuels my car over 300 brake.

Hope this helps

ok simon one other question...

do you have facilities to read off of standard EECIV chips? and then set up the ECU with that on there as a base map?

for example could i send you a pile of cash and a granada cosworth ECU and be delivered an ECU that i could plug in and go (untill such time i can get it to the mapper) or would i need to employ the services of a mapper with EECIV and S8 knowledge/software to do this?

question for SECS:

i've got 2 motors, a cossie and a 2.9 V6 (12V that will be converted to twin turbo). will i need 2 ecu's for this, or can one S8 be configured to run either the 4 or 6 cylinder engines? (with a connector converter if necessary) as obviously i can only drive one car at a time.

Currently the S8 does NOT support cars with more than 4 cylinders.
However, I plan to do a V8 version and will probally include V6 too.
I cannot give an exact date for this at this point in time (probally around Jan next year).

I do NOT have the facility to read EEC4 maps out but I do have several standard
tune base maps for various configurations of injectors/turbo/engine type.

I will be interested in a S8 once you have done it for 6 cylinder engines

What would the estimated cost be ?

simon, even tho i'm not a customer, would you welcome some feedback/suggestions from me (made via personal email not public) as ive been looking at your software all morning (playing with my new laptop... lol) and have thought of a few points that might be worth changing

Jim Galbally, Feel free to make suggestions/comments publically.
I should add, I recently updated the software 2 days ago and yours may be out
of date depending when you downloaded it.

Also, I have a list of pending "suggestions" and features that are going in the
next version.

Add to that the windows version is also on the way .....

a windows version? i asusme it'll not be mouse based, as that'd suck for trying to use at high speed... lol

i downloaded software today by the way (both demo and normal)

ok here are my personal suggestions, please take them constructively, and bear in mind i'm not a mapper and could be barking up completely the wrong tree:

FullScreen monitor dunctionality, maybe with some graphical gauge outputs (liek lewis has for his T2)

ESC Key - you use esc to accept informational popups as well as error messages, maybe make enter the key for info popups (less confusing)

Afterburner - change the name please it sounds so

WaterInjection: maybe add a variable output like a nitrous pulsoid to ocontrol the quantity of water injected? (dunno if this is stupid idea or not)

Boost Map - Add a graph for this, they look cool and easier to read... lol

Idle Speed - you set the cold+warm speeds but cant find anywhere that defines what the cold and warm points are also can you make this variable over different temperatures rather than just an imediate switch from high to low?

Map Sensors - Add support for 1bar map sensors for NASP applications maybe? and can they support the frequencey type mapsensors as found on the FRST (dunno if tis ofac or ofab) probably easier just to change to a different type of mapsensor tho... lol but im sure i read somewhere that theyre are advantages in the freq. types

Trigger/Sensor settings - this lists the type of engine you got, but doesnt state what the different settings are for, could you add an advanced section or maybe justa helptext to describe what the different settings are for (ie xxx works on flywheel, yyy works on CPS etc. etc.) same for distributor/coilack selection... how does changing the settings affect the actual output... again the same with the boost control type selection (would be easier for people using them on non-RS applications IMHO)

Jim,
Windows version will have gauges on.

Esc/enter key - Dont be so picky !!!!

Afterburner is called that because it can do antilag and/or flamer control
for BIGGGGGG flames

Water injection - This is to become a general mappable output in the next version
with lots of features for creating custom outputs.
Plus there will be two such outputs.

Boost map graph - Good idea - added to the list.

Idle speed - This is a interpolated control say if cold is 1300, and hot is 1000, then at warm it would be mid way at 1150.
I.E. The idle speed is linear across the coolant control range.

1 bar map sensors - Nooooooo - Ok yes then. On the list

Crank settings - this is designed to be easy set up so will not change.
These work for 99.9999% of designed applications and saves alot of
data entry setup by the user.
If somebody wants a custom one I will add it if demand is there.

Thanks for the interest and comments Jim.

cool

Esc/enter key - Dont be so picky !!!!
not being picky, just took some getting used to as to me escape is what i press after ive done something wrong and enter when ive done something right

I.E. The idle speed is linear across the coolant control range
cool, but can you define whats cold and whats hot (if that makes sense?)

1 bar map sensors
nice one, just figured itd provide the nasp people (yes there are some of us... lol) with a bit more easily plug n play stuff :P but what about the frequency type map sensors?

Crank settings - this is designed to be easy set up so will not change
completely understand, but just figure an advanced/custom setting (or at least a description as to what the setting mean in the help) wouldn't go amiss

hope you dont think im pickin holes mate, its just that its a product that really interests me and i'd like to see be the best it can be
