Default Frequency Generation?

Does anyone know where I can get hold of some software for frequency generation? I want to create a frequency of around 50 hz, but have the ability to change the phase as well. Needs to be free

Thanks
John

Lots of pc based signal analysers such as SignalCalc have built in signal generators. But that's a bit of overkill if you dont' want to analyse the data.

A quick google search of 'online signal generator' came up with loads of hits. inlcuding this, which should work nicely.

Fantastic program - stick it on 60 Hz, wind the sub up and watch the house windows shake

When I was at school, which was a long long time ago, I was taught (if I remember correctly) that you could cancel a wave by emitting a wave directly at the source of the same frequency but out of phase. Therefore I’m trying an experiment to see if this works.

Here’s the problem.

The next-door neighbour has installed a hot tub. The hot tub emits a low frequency hum, which I assume is around the 50hz range, but I need to measure it. It’s not loud, but I can hear it all though the house. It’s one of those penetrating sounds.

Here’s the solution.

If I emit the same frequency at the hot tub through a sub woofer, but out of phase, I should cancel the noise.

Cheers

theoretically, it could work... but it would have to be 180 degrees out of phase... and ideally emmiting from the same spot form the hot tub...

might be worth trying it though if its all free!

Well, I don’t know. I’m going to put the sub down the bottom of the garden pointing in the direction of the neighbours.

As it’s for free, it’s worth having a go. If anything, I can piss the neighbours off with a noise of my own.

oh right! cool!! i know you can download something off the FUEL website (the ones that do the car audio) that can change the frequency of your sub!

you won't cancel the hot tub sound that way, you may be able to create local spots where it is quieter but move away a few inches and you will add the waves together and make it even louder
