Johnno has gave some spot on advice there!
I had a complete fuckin mission changing mine!
Someone sold me one off here which looked nice but the return was blocked so was scrap and a waste of 50quid....
Another one wasn't even a cossie one
Then luckily i managed to get one of A.K.A (Paul) and it has been spot on!
DO NOT BUY A PATTERN ONE AS THEY ARE SHITE! They do not come with a swirl pot inside and will make the car miss and splutter when cornering hard with less then 1/4 full tank.
It's a complete wanker of a job changing one. Remember to purchase all tthe bolts/washer and the tank strap before you even attempt to change it! If the tank has not been off the car beofre i guarentee the bolts and clips will break and you'll end up cutting the tank off the car.....
The prices and part numbers are relisted below (not sure f they the same for 2wd)
Sierra Sapphire Cosworth (4WD)-Fuel Tank Strap

Sierra Sapphire Cosworth (4WD)-Fuel Tank Strap Washer

Pattern part on mine and had no problems
Cosworth fuel pump is gravity fed,so don't need a swirl pot
Not sure if standard ford tanks had them, anyone got a old gen one they want to cut open and take some pics??????
right, just to clear this up... been on the phone to my dad (ford engineer) who spent a bit of time looking this up for me..
the tank in the cossie 2wd saff IS the same as ALL the inj saff models and the xr4i. the original FINIS code is the same through the range.
there is no difference whatsovever... and its 130 quid.
new tank will be in tomorow. cost me 51 quid

my car cos 4x4 has the wrong tank on it no swirl pot."bought in haste by the last owner"...

Kev - I used my pattern one for a week and did some hard driving... It cause monsterous amounts of problems with spluttering and cutting the engine out when giving it the boot round corners... So i'm sticking my my decision so where is your evidence
Changed to a genuine one and it sorted the problem. Ford tanks ones HAVE got an internal swirl pot.. When you take the sender out you can see it as it's bright yellow in the right bottom corner!

I don't run it down into the red though very often, not tight like that!!!!!
Perhaps some pattern part tanks have baffles like standard tank
Your right about the different types of tank though, there are 2 sizes of hole on the top of them, internal pump type have the big hole, cosworth has the small hole just for fuel gauge sender
I didn't have the chance to top up as i was running out of fuel in the middle of a forest
I hope his dad has ordered the right one, fingers crossed...
Am i'm not tight, so shut it...

ive used 3 pattern tanks now on my cars
and never had a problem
i got them off tricky
all have swirl pots in aswell
as this is where the sender sits in aswell
never had a problem going round corners when low on fuel either

I didn't know Tricky's have pots in... I'm just warning people off the the cheaper ones don't!
Like the ones listed for 50quid. LOL
And the swirl pot is in the corner of the tank where the return and feed is....It's not under where the sender sits....

I've just gone outside and taken a picture of my old genuine tank's swirl pot..
Please pay NO attention to the rust as it's been sitting there in our back garden for fuckin weeks!

You can see the feed and return going into the pot.. Without this in a tank the fuel would just slosh around.. So if running low might not pick enough fuel up if corning hard......
The pot would be filled with fuel and not suck air thorugh the pump (Only maybe if going round is circles for 15mins LOL )

looks like this maybe another ford fuck up then
now the non injection models have a low-pressure pump in the tank and they use this tank for the dohc 8v carbed engine.
but it doesnt list this tank for a dohc 8v glsi... it lists the same number as the cossie one.
ford bullshit again .....
now ford havent got any niether do fordpartsuk.....
so have had to buy a good pattern one.. which DOES have a swirl pot...
so i hope its a good one... or im fookerd
