Default series 1 welding question

just finished cutting the old battery tray out of my series 1 ,what a fucking nightmare, couldnt believe the mess i made, inside & out! does the repair panel have to be seam welded or can it just be stitched? and does absolutely everything around glove box area have to be stripped out?

Yeah m8, remove anything up underneath, as a welder will make the cloth Smolder and catch a light, the flat metal you put back in will need to be seam welded to water proof it, its the tray it self that is Spot welded to the metal.

mikey, what about where wiring loom comes through the bulkhead? will this be ok if pulled out of way as far as poss?nearly everything stripped out already, just a bit of sound proofing to get out, dont think it will be going back in though as im gonna fuck it up getting it out as its proving a right bastard to remove without it all breaking off in small pieces!! more concerned about melting the loom or fucking up the ecu with all that heat! cheers mate.

You need to seam weld it all round, don't forget underneath to the bulkhead too, as its a MOT specific area.

Grind the welds down, seam seal the repair, then at worst use white stone chip to make it presentable or have it painted.
