Default What would cause a rad to split?

Bit of a strange one this morning, came home an water was pissing out of my runabout.

After an hour & half of removing the lights, front panel etcetc to get the rad out, it appear to have a split in one of the bottom cores. Not probs, i'll stick some radweld in there.

Then it started to overheat, the fans wouldn't kick in and the heaters were only blowing out cold and the rad kept pissing water out.

Removed it all again, thermostat is good (but bought a new one incase) , bridged the fans, they work (a new fan switch needed i guess) and bought a new rad.

But before i fit them, i wanna make sure this rad doesn't split again, so what could have caused it?

Does this sound like a fooked water pump problem

Thanks

Not tnough antifreze would make the rad corrode from the inside out.

agreed, either head gasket or just plain old wear and tear!

I can't believe you honestly expected radweld to cure it though

I had the same with an old 306 once. was fine for years then overnight just lost all the water out the rad! New rad fixed the problem.. none of these cossie-paranoia headgasket worriers

probably wear and tear. pressure would probably blow a hose off first. Always look on the bright side
