I haven't been on here a while, but since then I've aquired another Ford as well as my Focus. I have recently aquired a Ford Escort 1.6i Cabrio. It pulls well, but it has one large problem

If you put the power on, it vibrates so much to the extent that you can see the bonnet move from side to side, as well not feeling all that comfortable. You can feel the vibrations all the way from around 25-30mph (just about come in then a little bit), with the vibrations getting worse with the speed I reckon.

I've been underneath the car, and there is no play in both lower arms (inner bushes are brand new, ARB bushes, and the wheels appear to be straight when I spun then with the car jacked, as well as the brakes, which operate fine too.

I checked the drivshafts, which moved in and out I think about 7-8mm, maybe more (I'll need to check more thoroughly next time), and they also moved about 3-5mm up and down, making the same kind of (sort of a click/tap) sound as well the clutch is engine to move the car. The LHS one also did the same, but move up a little more I think.

Do you reckon the driveshafts are gone on this car, or do you think that something else is at fault? I know these Cabrios are meant to suffer from scuttle shake, but surely it can't be that bad! .

 

have you checked your engine mounts

 

I have and they appear to be fine with no serious movement.

 

not sure mate just check the whole front end did you get someone to rev it up will you watched the engine

it sounds like a drivshaft of bearing or disk

 

I'd check your tyres havent got any bulges in, even a small bleb can make a massive difference to how a car drives, and not always noticeable straight away without looking for it.

 

yeah i had the same on one of my cars it was driving me crazy trying to find it

 

check the wheels are balenced as well as depending on the size of the wheels tey cause ti to vibrate horribly
