Default 4x4 saff to 2wd conversion- a few Questions.!

Is there an off the shelf gearbox mount avaliable to fit a T5 box into a late K plate 4x4 cossie shell?

Will a 7.5" 2wd diff fit a 4x4 rear beam?

Will you have PM ref the mount but the Diva is to thank as he passed the info onto me.

As far as I know the 4x4 beam wont take a 7.5" diff.

I have all the bits already, and the conversion is done , but I want a better mount for the 2wd box as the car is running 450ish+, and I have had to fabricate a mount using box section steel which is ok, but idealy want somthing thats made for the job to tidy it up

And I am just wondering if I can avoid having to swap rear beams but it looks like I will be having a few days under the car , as I don't think a poor little 7" diff is going to take 38psi of T4 abuse for too long

The car is absolutly mint, is silver, got mint leather, full chrome bay, 500ish BHP ( 38psi on a T4 ), is aeroquipped, 18" comps, and all the dizzyless/ coilpacks/ Closed loop/ 1000cc injectors MSD live mapped etc, and a full service history, and I have know the car for two years, and I can't be fucked spending months and months looking for a 2wd that still won't be anywhere near as nice a car unless its going to be 15-20k . And I have a doner 2wd car sat waiting.

4x4 is ok, but I already have an escos that the drivetrain is costing 5kish to sort, and it STILL won't be as strong as a good old T5

next question?

why do you want a uprated gearbox mount ?
all the gearbox mount does on 2wd is hold the gearbox level in the tunnel
you gonna need to take beam out if you have an adjustable one anyway

Not an uprated mount brom, the actual mounting bracket on the bottom of the gearbox that links the rubber mount to the tunnel. Obviously the 4x4 and 2wd std gearbox mounting brackets won't line up a T5 in a 4x4 shell, so for the time being just to get the car rolling and driving ( very gently) , I have had to put a bit of box section steel inbetween the 2wd mount and the 4x4 chassis pick ups,.which works but I can't see it coping well with the power, so I want a decent mount that fits properly, hopefully the part I have from ford will do the job as it is meant to fit a T5 into a 4x4 shell

On a seperate note, if I give you a 4x4 rear beam to do your conversion on, is it a pain in the arse to make it take a 7.5" diff, or is it easier to give you a 2wd one?

i'm sure there is
the 4wd shell was used in a lot of later spec sierras (wider tunnel and extra holes for the 4wd mounts) so it should fit up ok

yes, with a bit of adjustment you can make it fit
you just have to lop off a bit of the top of the diff where the bolt goes through
or
widen the beam a little
easier to lop the bolt bit off

ok, so if I put a 2wd diff into the 4x4 beam on the escos, will 2wd drive shafts bolt onto the 4x4 stub shafts? Also, I have a 2wd beam on a different car, would it just be easier to give you that and the trailing arms to mod for my escort?

as brom says, no need to change the gearbox mount from your box section really, as it doesn't do much. the engine mounts take the torque as they are much further away from the centre of rotation

but if there's one off the shelf that's cheap enough, then may as well do it

why keep the part number to pm though? don't we share knowledge on this site? isn't that the founding principle behind it? a reference site for ford enthusiasts it says at the top of the page

Well the finis code for the gearbox mount is 6177696 , And it costs a mighty £12 , so better to have the propper job and be sure the prop angle is correct and fits as factory, as a bit of box section steel looks a bit pikey IMHO, and my gearbox just touches the tunnel at the moment as I had to make mine there and then as my car was blocking my mates ramps up

And at £12 it might as well be done %100 perfect

It would be cheaper to get a nail of a 2wd and do it up!

Keep the 4x4 for shit weather! We get enough of it!

read them above posts cossie 916 i have the doner car sat next to it , 4x4 is wank , I can't afford 2x 4k drivetrains, one is enough , and besides, RWD is the best fun you can have in a car with your cloths on and the conversion is already done %95

What else you been involved in ABDR? and whats your name anyway?
