Default melted piston

Hi, I was running between 15 and 20 psi on me t3 chipped up fiesta, the head gasket blew when the garage went to to fix it they told me the piston had melted. are standard pistons not designed for such power? ive heard about oversize pistons and mahle pistons does anyone have any ideas on this as im gunna have to cut boost to 10psi to be on the safe side when i get it back

As rob said running that kind of pressure you need to make sure that the fuel is spot on or you will have melt down every time.

You were running 701 beige injectors weren't you as standard blues can't cope with more than about 12psi

Waaay too much boost for those injectors fella.

Live and learn!

I have a belter of a paperweight at work....one of my pistons metled a hole clean through the middle at an indicated 140...on my private test track of course

basically what the mechanic told me was that these cars just wernt designed for that sort of boost to do that it wud need major work including spray and upgraded pistons and rods etc but then he sed y wud u do that instead of buying an evo i cudnt argue with that 1 but anyway the higher the boost the more fuel u cane the hotter the engine gets and ultimately the more problems are gunna happen

Don't speak to garages that talk utter shit for a start mate. A set of 701 injectors, 195 chip, Cossie fuel pump and a carefull setup atnd you should be knocking on the door of 180bhp.

My brothers FRST was making 210bhp @20psi on a completely standard bottom end with 100k on it. The only reason it's apart now is the body needed a check over and while the engine was out we figured we'd make the most of the oppertunity. Car hasn't missed a beat in the 5 years he's owned it.
