Default Auto Gearbox Flexplates

Does anyone have any experience with these ?

Just been informed that my flexplate has cracked, I understand the principle of the flexplate and torque convertor, however if these two parts fail does that render the whole box scrap ? (as this is what I'm being told)

Just wondering if I'm getting mugged off ?

Any advice appreciated

Absolute bollocks you are being told mate.
I have always had auto cars, tuned as well, and cracked/broke a few plates, well three in 25 years, one was a x flow at 180bhp though with original 1300 flex plate.
Why do you think yours is cracked ?
What car/box is it.

What are the symptoms ?
Was the gearbox always attached to the engine ?, how could it be out of line ?
Cracking is very very rare.

Dont no about Merc flex plates, But its not rare for ford flex plates to crack , Torque converter failer is the most common reason for cracking.

Symtoms is noise when reving in neutral .

As Dave wrote, esp if it were a 2.3/ 2.8 Granada mk2 lol
They had a habit of cracking around the crank/ bolt area.
Eventually you end up wit no drive .

Symptoms were as Dave has pointed out, however does a failed torque converter and flexplate ALWAYS = knackered box ? or is every case different ?

Box should be OK , Replaced loads of flex plates and convertors together never had a problem with the gearbox

Boxes always survive, most flex plate cracks are due to idiots not COMPLETELY STOPPING when they change direction.
