40 quid a year for a TV... no chance!!

imagine all the electrical appliances left on standby... the extra would be about 500 quid a year if that was the case... I dont even pay that much

sorry, but no way 40 quid for TV

we got comprssed air at work and they reckon that a compressd air leak the size of a match head.if left overnight wastes enough energy to make 444 pieces of toast.i love toast.

Does the size of your TV make any difference to how much power it takes to watch it? I've been given quite a big TV and my friends reaction was "ooo that'll cost you a fortune in electric compared to a normal TV!"

I don't leave it on standby, but I do leave the microwave, DVD player and cable box on standby.

From what i understand, its the big CRT TV's that use the power while on standby, where as the LCD/Plasma ones dont use anywhere near that much as they dont have any "moving" parts inside them...

its all down to how they work...

Compressed Air is the single most expensive industrial utility. Getting a leak survey done will pay istelf back in a couple of months

We have a smart meter in our house located in the kitchen so it is easy to see what is left on before you go to bed. We are still consuming about 100watts - fridge mostly.

ALso, those of you with extension leads with the little red light on - they still consume 4 watts just for the little red light

Yes I am that anal, but its my job

You shall now be known as Anal Paul.

It's an electrical conspiracy. How many manufacturers make items with NO off button nowadays? Loads. Go into Curry's or Dixons and check it out. Sure they do it in conjunction with Electrical Companies to sell more electricity.

Looking in my front room now we have:
Tv..always make sure that's off using the button at night.
Video: off..but clock on
Freeview: off..but clock on
DVD Player: NO OFF BUTTON..permanently on standby.
PS2: off..but normally on standby as it's a pain with the on/off switch at the back of the unit
Stereo: Seperate units that needs amp power to operate, but only go on standby unless you unplug them.

think of it another way...

how much do you get paid per hour/?

then add up all the times you get up to switch things on/off..
rather than use the remote still sat on your ass to switch to stand by

bet the tim used to save Ł40 of leccy adds up to more than Ł40..

so fuck the environment and save your own energy using the standby button on the remote

lol you'll be tight fisted when you have to pay the leccy bill out of your own hard earned cash!

DVD players etc always get turned off at the plug, turn the LCD tv off this way too, and the hi-fi, and the leccy tv aerial!

PC always gets shut down and turned off properly every night, usually leave it on standby mode in the day, but most days its not turned on till the evening anyway

I do pay the bill mate. But they're on extensions so it's a pain to physically unplug everything all the time in that case. Computer also gets shut-down properly, but Modem stays on.

Just remembered: upstairs we don't have anything that has an off button neither.
Tv goes on standby only
Tv booster on all time
Freeview goes on standby only
Stereo goes on standby only

I blame the damn bird

I meant Benni calling his Dad a tight fisted fat bastard!

Thats a pain if everything is run off an extension, not as simple as switching the extension off.

Oh I see now.
Too many gadgets and audio/visual stuff nowaday to plug everything into it's own socket.
Bring back the days when you had a 12" B&W portable and a wind-up radio..much simpler

If I have to pay the bill my kids won't be having a tele... They never had televeisions all them years ago and it did them no harm. Altough I will have a secret television in my bedroom. I couldn't live without my emmerdale.

This will soon change if the new EU law comes in banning standby

Good.
They moan about the country wasting electricity then produce stuff without any means of fully switching it off bar the plug
