All i can say is im glad i was in a Volvo!
The driver was polish and in a left hand drive lorry, he admitted it was his fault, we were going round a roundabout, he decided he wanted to be in my lane, and didnt see me!
And to top it off he tried to drive off twice...... until i stood in front of the lorry!
He couldnt understand or speak a word of english, so the police had to get a translator.

What roundabout is that Maria?
Look like the A14/A12 junction as if you were coming from Felixstowe, came off the A14 at the junction and were heading to Tesco's!
Where it splits into 2 lanes yes?

FasterFords - my god thats just unbearable to think about!
vroooom ptssssh - yeah not so bad after all!
Fil - yeah i was pretty pissed off as you can imagine!
he has been charged with careless driving, but as he was on his way back to the docks with his cargo, they have to let him go back.
Norfolk Line are now responsible for making sure he attends court.
but the police seem to think he wont even have to attend

I had similar but with a rhd truck when I was in my Vec. Said he never saw me. Luckily the damage wasn't as bad as yours. Hope you get it sorted with as little hassle as possible.
Watch out - the last foreign lorry driver that drove into me (not my Cos either thank God!) accepted liability, exchanged details, and drove off into the M25 car park. Exactly the same, ish, left hooker lorry didn't see me next to him and pulled over into work's Fiesta.
2 years later, I got quizzed by the FD at work because now this German lorry driver's claiming that I was on the phone, even though he didn't see me... hmmm.... Shame the police weren't in attendance taking things down to use in evidence.
At least you're OK though

And the lesson learned here is? A lot of people calling the hgv driver a cock etc etc etc, should not have tried to drive off as that is taking the piss but being a fellow HGV driver it is hard to get around junctions and roundabouts etc when all car drivers are intrested in is getting past you by any means necessary, left hand drive unit and the geezer is in strange and unfamiliar surroundings, cut him a bit of slack,
car drivers remember, try not to go up the inside of artics and give em a bit of room

People might indeed have cut him some slack if he had not tried TO DRIVE OFF.
Agreed it is an easy mishap to happen, but a certain few drivers from foreign shores especially are not insured properly or licesnesed in some cases.
I would be very suprised if he shows up in court, as the great brit gov will not do anything about it if he does not.

As he clearly stated to his interpreter when giving the police a statement.
gutted. trying to drive off twice?? he not have a hgv licence or something? had the same when my car was smashed by a polish guy who, typically, couldn't speak english. turned out no insurance and i believe no uk valid licence

Speak to the cunts in whitehall, now that all of us who are citizens in this country and hold a hgv licence are very limited to what hours we can work expect a bigger flood of european/foreign hgv drivers,

Oh dear.. At least it was only a slow moving tump... And not a high speed fatal crunch up.
If that was a cosworth it would be written off and deemed beyond economical repair so good job its a company motor..
I always stay back from trucks on roundabouts cos they usually need more than 1 lane..
but like you say, a queue of traffic and he squashed you in..

Maybe so, but I still don't think you understand how big the blind spot can be on the right hand side of a LHD lorry. (I know, I drive one all day) You can lose whole cars in it easily and you can't watch that mirror 100% of the time, it only takes a couple of seconds for someone to jump in it and you don't know they're there.

The thing is, on a roundabout an artic lorry will swing into the inside lane as it drives round, I've lost count of the amount of times this has happend with my lorries. The driver of the car should be aware that this happens and give the lorry some room. This is why you see lorries sitting over 2 lanes at the giveway going on to roundabouts so that people cannot come up their o/s.
I've also seen insurance claims being resolved in our favour as the car driver is driving without paying attention to what is actually going on round about them.
We have had a few Polish and Czech drivers recently and to be honest I cannot fault them at all, a few language issues but their driving is generaly of a high standard.
Why are Norfolkline responsible can I ask??
BTW not blaming you at all, glad you're ok.

Classic case of Ethnocentricism.. Also By stoping them come over here to deliver items, you can kiss good bye to cheap goods etc.Personally i welcome over here, aslong as they abide by the law of the land.
Agree with Maria though, shocking he tried to drive off
I have many Polish drivers coming into our place each day, generally nice people who try hard to earn a living, most companies in the UK that order goods from abroad normally leave it to the companies they are buying from to organise the transport, i think gone are the days where a UK company will use a UK haulier / forwarder to bring goods in as we're too expensive and the poles that work in England driving full time only get £5 per hour
but i think they should speak English as they are in England afterall and that Volvo is horrid

trying to drive off!, they should ban him from driving in the UK
