most be GL 4, for the lsd.

And 80 is what ford say, but 80/90 is good too.

75/90 is usually semi, and isn't the best for the lsd's.

the 75w 90 gearboxman supplied me with my stg1 box was fully synthetic and ive had no probs

he also does a 75w 90 semi synthetic and a 80w 140 for high torque rear axle applications

The oil has absolutely nothing to do with the LSD, as the LSD is a sealed unit with it's own fluid inside.

Default oil

castrol syntrax is one of the best gearbox oils by far and is highly reccomended by those in the know and myself, it is very very pricy though but well worth it.

The vicous part of the LSD is sealed, but the rest is still in the gear oil.

I've had this issue for years on cars, machines and lorries.

There's no point running good oil, if the (as they do) wear all the time, putting metal in the oil, and causing more wear.

I find it best to use a good quality std gear oil, and change it on every service.

My cossie, i change the gear and the diff oils about every 2 track days or 1000 miles.
i use semi 75/90 in the dog box, and gl4 80/90 in the quaife diff's.

Default rst gearbox

thats all well and good but there is no drain plug on an rst box so you have to whip the driveshft out everytime you want to drain the oil which is very messy. I have never had a box fail and i only change gearbox oil if i know a gear has been badly crunched which may leave sworf floating around in there or the clutch is being changed.

Sorry, i forgot to write all thats 'imo'.

I've thought of putting my own drain plug in the B5 before, at lowest point.

My xr2tt B5 box with ATB diff i still runs gl4 80/90, and i change the oil once a year (6k miles) or if i have it out.
(ps Quaife say GL4 is best with their ATB's)

PS, i use Morris oils for all my oil needs, so its all top quaility.
