Default HUD (Heads Up Display)

I am really intersted in getting a PROPER HUD fitted on my Escos. I dont like the defi unit or cheaper equivalents as they just look like they are reflected on the windscreen and require a special film applied the windscreen. I really like the look of the Corvette HUD (which although the ones fitted with HUD have a special windscreen to reduce ghost images they dont NEED anything other than a normal windcsreen to work nicely http://joshker99.home.comcast.net/hudinstall2.htm).

My question is would it be possible to get the baisc display functions of the HUD, such as speed and rpm, to work with an Escos? You can get the corvette HUDs with loom etc for around 250 quid from the states, and dont mind paying a lot more get it fitted and working

To get it to work on an Escos you will need to find a speed signal from somewhere - possibly the ABS sensors. Then it is just a case of getting an electronics genius to make a chip that converts the Escos input signals for speed and RPM into the relevant Corvette equivalent signals to be output to the unit.

I'm sure it is something that anyone like SImon at SECS could do given enough time to research what signals are required for the HUD unit. I'm guessing they woulld have to dismantle a working Corvette to figure it out though!

2.9 Xr4x4's had VSS and would be easily retrofitted onto Escort cos for a speed sensor signal as it simply fits inline of the speedo cable. Assuming you still have 4x4 thats is.

As siad would be a case of finding out what inputs you have and then finding out what type of signal are sent via the sensors. find out if Vette one can be adapted or if you use ford sensors with the possibly of the something to translate the signals to the vette ones.

Yep lol With the aim dash its difficult to tell the speed easily at first glance, so a HUD would be a godsend

Grammatically speaking yes, unless you have a stiffy

If you look at all the current HUD devices they are marketed as "heads" up display for one reason or another and I am not one to fly in the face of such grammatical errors lol

will always look a bit 'aftermarket' if you catch my drift

but .. if done PROPERLY.. will look great.

Needs to be properly cut in to the top of the dash so it is flush.

spare dash would be a good idea..

oh, I have one for sale too!!
