Default anyone on here into PC Repairs?

I have a motherboard (mini ITX) i am building an in car PC, and i think i fried my mobo, but i dont know if its repairable, basically the board was working fine, XP was loaded, tested and working, i went to plug in a usb stick (but forgot i hadnt screwed the mobo down (there was a good reason for this lol) and it moved slighty and hasnt worked since, now and again it boots to post but oftern it gives an audiable warning. No parts are viasably fried etc, but i have changed the memory, removed battery, tried a PCI video card, (it has built in graphics) in the hop i would be lucky, but it dont work, shame tho but is it scrap?

Just try removing the BIOS battery and see if this resets the alarms.
If not you have fried it. Would proably not be visable.

sit it on a piece of cardboard (pizza boxes are especially good) and fire it up to make sure it's not shorting on anything underneath (assuming it is still sat in the metal case) If it's mounted badly two contacts may be shorting together

CHeck in the motherboard manual (if you havent got it, download a PDF version from the manufacturers website) and look at what the beep codes mean.

The beep codes vary depending on the fault, think sorta morse code e.g. long beep may mean memory fault, 3 short beep means processor fault etc etc, varies depending on the board

Give it a go, at least you may be able to figure out what is fried. Hopefully it wont be the processor, as thats usually the single most expensive thing to replace

im massive into the ITX scene, I run one in a mini-moto media centre, done in car systems using them along with MythTV and touch screens. Ive done volts mods to them and hard soldered additional USB along with other stuff

What model board is it ?... sounds like a 'M' series board probably a M1200

Am I right ?

If the board follows the true ITX standard as laid out by Via and is not a ITX-FFB (ITX Form Factor Motherboard) the processor will be hard soldered to the motherboard and as such if the processor has gone in many cases the board, graphics, MPEG Decoder, 5.1 sound is lost along with the processor

if its new/under warranty take it back to where you got it and play ignorant. my godbro is a system builder and got some static buildup on the board and half of it was dead. took it back and exchanged it.

Sounds very nice and ethical, suggesting returning products you personally damage.. hope engine builders are taking note.

have you tried unplugging it from the mains hitting the power button a few times to clear any power left in the board then clearing CMOS, leave it for 10 mins then plug it back in and boot up.
