Default anybody know these answers???

Hi everyone,

Need some advice. Fitting rs turbo block into my mk2 orion 1.6 ghia.

I know i need to source the rs turbo downpipe which runs down from turbo to midsection, but is the rest of the exhaust still usable or is it a different size. I could always buy a complete rs turbo exhaust and then just change the backbox (at least I think). Does anyone know?

Also

When you get a engine ballanced how is this done. Is it just the flywheel that is skimmed and ballanced afterwards or is there more to it. I have rebuilt the bottom end but never got it ballanced!

The exhausts are different sizes. If you have a bottom end ballanced then they do more than just the fly wheel nearly everything will get lightend and ballanced rods, crank ect...

An RS exhaust is a much larger bore and only has 1 silencer you will majorly strangle the engine if you try to use the standard exhaust.

Just buy an RST complete exhaust, you may need to extend the tail pipe a little though.

Thanks guys for your help. would it work if i bought the rs turbo exhaust excluding the back box and then just bought a perfromance back box to suit the orion? or would the pipe joints not match up then? Also now a bit worried about my engine rebuild cause its nearly finnished and i never got it ballanced. do you think it will be okay?

Duno if you'll get an orion back box with the same bore as an RS exhaust.

You dont have to balance an engine thats a performance thing, standard RS engines arent balanced.

You don't need a different backbox for the Orion, only the very last 20cm is needed to be extended. So remove nothing from an RST exhaust, just add a little.

Balancing always needs to be done as a whole. So crank+flywheel+clutch. More important on high revving engines and I woudn't consider turbo cvh as such.

ALL engines are balanced by the manufacturer, just not as well as aftermarket balancing in some cases.
If you look at the webs on the crank, you will see holes drilled in various places this is the balancing.
THey can ONLY balance what you supply them with, basically if it rotates they can balance it, so long as ther is sufficient metal to play around with.
Normally CRANK RODS PISTONS FLYWHEEL are the items that are balanced, rods can be balanced END TO END, then as a whole unit, PISTONS are weight matched or "BALANCED" as the set as close to each other as possible.
Crank and Flywheel are balanced for out of imbalance forces.
These can be done to 1 GRAMME if you want put unless a screamer just not worth it.
The main effect of BALANCING is to make a freer more rev happy engine, for the cost I have always done it on every single engine I have ever done.
It will cause NO HARM AT ALL NOT TO HAVE IT DONE, so don't worry, it just won't be quiet a s smooth as one that has been done.
It is a good idea to have the FLYWHEEL lightened as this will aid ACCELRATION, but not affect power, it does this as it has less RECIPROCATING MASS(engine bits) to accelerate, but can make the engine a little lumpy with less flywheel weight on idle only, but it will defo rev easier.
