Default FRST- jerking on WOT

Righty then, back to this problem yet again
car is 1.8 efi zvh, chip, cam bla bla bla!!!
The problem is that when you floor it, the car will suddenly cut the ignition- almost as if its hitting the overboost, and from then on will continue to do so if you floor it.

However, if you are nice and progressive on the throttle, then its fine, and will boost as per normal....

I say back to this prob again, as it happened last year, and it turned out that i had received an xr2i ACT rather than a frst ACT, and that was causing the problem, buit this has been changed, and been good as gold until about a week ago!

Does it sound like the map sensor is fubar, so a new one would solve it?- and if thats the case how much am i looking for a 3 bar jobbie ? (as the management is OFAB).
Finally, i am right in thinking it is a straight swap, yeah????

Cheers for your help on my shonky lego like engine!

It sounds like your turbo pipes/ intercooler pipes are knackered & are sucking closed when floored. This happened to an ERST i had a good few years back.

aj- no worries chap!
ginge- cheers, ill keep that in mind! And as for the boost, i can't turn it up if the car is jerking like a bastid can i lol! - should be quite nippy on a bar though!

Also, just been out to take the g/f to work, on the brakes, it boosts fine in second, no jerking, do it in 3rd, hit about 6 psi, and it jerks, then it will do it everytime you floor it, and it hits about 3 psi
anyone got a suggestion?
Cheers peeps!

edit as ive just seen nicks reply- cheers, ill clean up the plugs, and see if that sortes it- they are about a year old i spose!

and the signal wire is which one???
reads 0-5v don't it, or something like that? But if it was TPS, surley it would play silly buggers in first too?

depends rich... in 1st it doesnt have anywhere near as much load on it...

0-5 is the norm... mine's 1v - 4.5v on the 24v

wouldnt worry too much about the values, just make sure its smooth n doesnt have flat spots

TPS, CTS, ACT, MAP are all easy to test with a multimeter

ive got all the data here n i'll pop it over later... you workin 2nite?

my old frst engine did this

a couple of weeks after it started doing it, it ran lean on the motorway and dropped the spark plug electrode through the piston mashing 2 valves and ruining the block and head.

when i fitted my new engine i used the exact same sensors inlet ecu etc and it did not do it but i had it set up

has your car been setup ?

if it was done by BSW maybe you should get it looked at again matey

rich, you dont need an EECIV version of secs... simply chop up the multiplug and make it fit the cossie connector

i'm sure the ECU is clever enough to understand and interpret the signals it gets from the FRST sensors

also remember rich that all the wiring wiggling etc. etc. that was done coulda helped

also TPS on your TPS i stripped off about a 1mm section of wire thats now exposed when i was using the multimeter, and i havent put any tape over it... it cant hurt to cover this up when you get a sec mate... its the brown wire closest to the front of the car

Ginge, as for the seat- not a chance!- its great round corners being able to feel exactly what the car is doing

and i wana wait till the eeciv is rrealeased, as i don't wana have to chop up my loom.......................again!

passenger is still a recaro, and will prob stay that way, as my bro is 6"9, and 18 stone, so a bucket is a no-no, when you comapre at other times, some of my mates are 8 stone, and about 5" tall - they'd get dwarfed by a bucket made for Ian!
